Perfect Automation Pty Ltd is an established Australian importer and distributor of high-quality packaging machinery, supplying food and manufacturing producers across Australia from its base in Riverstone, in Sydney’s north-west. Drawing on more than 45 years of industry experience, the business brings leading international packaging technology to sectors including pet food, snacks, cheese, coffee, horticulture, meat, seafood and household products, with a range that covers flow wrappers, vertical form fill seal machines, pouch filling systems, tray sealers, tray stretch wrappers, cartoners, and weighing and inspection equipment.

The Mechanical Engineering Technician is central to Perfect Automation’s ability to deliver on its promise of reliable, efficient packaging lines. Reporting to the Director, the role takes each machine from delivery to full production, installing and commissioning packaging equipment on customers’ lines, diagnosing and repairing mechanical, automated and mechatronic faults, and confirming through testing and quality checks that every machine performs consistently to specification.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install and commission packaging machinery at customer sites, integrating equipment with existing production lines, conveyors and upstream and downstream systems.
  • Set up, adjust and fine-tune machines such as flow wrappers, vertical form fill seal machines, pouch fillers, tray sealers and cartoners to suit each customer’s product, film and pack format.
  • Carry out planned and preventive maintenance on installed equipment to sustain performance and reduce unplanned downtime.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot faults in mechanical, pneumatic, automated and mechatronic systems, identifying root causes and carrying out repairs to restore full functionality promptly.
  • Replace and rebuild worn or damaged components, and identify and source the correct spare parts.
  • Conduct quality control checks, performance testing and trial runs to verify output consistency, seal integrity, speed and accuracy against specifications.
  • Apply quality assurance processes before handover and following repairs, ensuring equipment meets the agreed performance standards.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate service reports, maintenance logs, commissioning records and technical reports for internal records and customer compliance.
  • Provide technical guidance to customer operators and maintenance staff on safe operation, routine care and basic fault-finding.
  • Work in accordance with workplace health and safety requirements, including isolation, lockout and tagout procedures and machine guarding standards.

Requirements:

  • Australian citizens and permanent residents are encouraged to apply.
  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or a related field.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience as a mechanical engineering technician or packaging machinery technician, preferably within the packaging machinery or automation industry.
  • Sound technical ability in installing, commissioning, maintaining and repairing mechanical, pneumatic and mechatronic equipment, including the ability to read technical drawings, manuals and schematics.
  • Working knowledge of quality control testing, preventive maintenance planning, machine safety requirements and accurate technical record-keeping.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose faults methodically under time pressure.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with a professional, customer-focused approach when working on clients’ sites.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a small team, manage competing priorities, and travel to customer sites as required.
