Parramatta Full-Time On-site

Our client is currently seeking the services of a Safety and Culture Advisor to join their busy team on a 3 month contract. This role exists to strengthen a positive safety culture, build practical safety capability, and keep pushing continuous improvement into how safe work is carried out across our client's field-based teams.

The role:

  • Champion a constructive, forward-looking approach to safety across every operational group.
  • Make sure the safety support on offer lines up with our client's safety framework and with both current and upcoming legal duties, so safety becomes a natural, built-in part of daily work.
  • Look into incidents, put forward suitable corrective actions, and follow up to check those actions are actually carried out.
  • Offer direction on safety-related policy matters.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

  • A Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety, or equivalent hands-on experience in a comparable role.
  • A track record of running safety coaching and awareness activities, including toolbox talks, workshops and on-site safety walks.
  • A solid grounding in WHS law, policy and procedure, with the practical skill to read and apply it correctly.
  • The confidence to be firm but approachable when working alongside crews out in the field.
  • An appreciation of how layered applying WHS can be inside a large organisation operating across multiple sites.
  • A history of coaching workers through everyday, practical safety advice that helps build a forward-thinking safety mindset.
  • Clear, competent writing skills for putting together WHS paperwork relevant to the role.
  • Hands-on experience running risk assessments, safety audits and incident investigations, along with a grasp of Chain of Responsibility duties.
  • The communication skill to connect with people at every level, from crew members through to senior leaders.
  • A current, unrestricted driving licence and a readiness to travel between sites as needed.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Develop genuine, respectful working relationships with leaders and crew members so their day-to-day environments and safety concerns are properly understood.
  • Bring a supportive, coaching-led style that weaves safety into ordinary routines and keeps it front and centre as something genuinely valued.
  • Encourage everyone to take ownership of safety - spotting and dealing with hazards early, taking part in investigations, and always looking for ways to work more safely.
  • Work together with leaders and teams to run safety assessments, investigations, system reviews and training that keep pushing safe work practices forward.
  • Acknowledge and call out good safety behaviour and initiative when it happens.
  • Push forward mental health and wellbeing programs as part of a rounded view of safety.
  • Give staff clear, dependable, up-to-date guidance, support and education so they know how to correctly follow approved policies and procedures.
  • Join in on toolbox talks with outdoor crews, covering incidents, hazards and what came out of investigations.
