This isn’t a back-office credit role. It’s for a sharp credit mind who also enjoys working with people and who wants to build and eventually lead the credit function at one of Australia’s leading asset finance brokerages.
At Yakka Finance, we see ourselves as a credit business with a sales team built around it. Great relationships bring deals in the door. Great credit gets them approved, structured properly and settled. We’re looking for someone to own that second part alongside our Managing Director.
We’re a boutique, award-winning asset finance brokerage based in a brand new A-grade office at 60 Castlereagh Street, Sydney CBD.
Why This Role Exists
Our Managing Director won Asset Finance Broker of the Year at the Australian Broking Awards in 2022, 2023 and 2025. He is constantly building relationships, leading the team, driving strategy with our Partnerships Manager, creating content with Marketing, and still spending a large share of his week managing his clients deep in full doc & low doc applications.
We need someone to work with him (and the other brokers) assist with credit & moving applications through the pipeline. That means picking up a deal, understanding the client and the numbers, structuring it correctly, getting it in front of the right lender, and keeping it moving, so the MD can not be worried if he needs to step out for business development, strategy meetings and content knowing the deals in his team are still in great hands. It's working with his existing clients. He will hunt the business and you will help them feel looked after.
You’ll be his right hand on credit and also be the person who sets the credit standard for the whole entire business working through all the policies.
The Pathway
- Year 1-4: Work side by side with the MD on full doc and low doc deals. Learn our clients, our lender panel, and how we structure and present deals. Take ownership of the credit pipeline and keep it moving. Build out Yakka’s credit policies, frameworks, and templates. Become the go‑to person internally for “will this deal get done, and with whom? How do we submit it”. This will free up the MDs time and help grow the business.
- Long term: Step into Head of Credit (or potentially a broker role as you would build relationships with the MDs client base in those years) at Yakka Finance. Lead credit across the business as we grow the broker team, setting the standard for how every deal is assessed, structured and presented.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Credit (the core of the role) - supporting the Managing Director.
- Assessing and preparing full doc applications: financial statements, management accounts, ATO portals, tax returns, bank statements, debt schedules and directors’ personal positions.
- Running servicing and cash flow analysis, assessing DSCR, existing commitments and exposure, and writing clear, persuasive credit submissions for a bank to pick up and approve the first time we submit.
- Managing low doc applications quickly and accurately across our lender panel.
- Work closely with sales to support effective credit decisions and lead training on credit so everyone is upskilling.
- Setting up and pushing Master Facility Limits with our big clients so finance is always approved.
- Structuring asset finance and commercial business lending deals, including trucks, vehicles, machinery and equipment, lines of credit, bank overdrafts and commercial loans.
- Matching each deal with the right lender based on policy, appetite, exposure limits and pricing.
- Spotting issues early and finding solutions, whether that’s restructuring, adding security, choosing a different lender or knowing when to walk away.
- Working with lender credit teams and BDMs to answer questions, push deals through and resolve conditions.
- Have fun with technology and credit to speed up decision‑making.
About You
- 2-3+ years’ experience in credit within asset finance, equipment finance or commercial/business lending, whether at a bank, non‑bank lender or brokerage.
- You know what a strong full doc application looks like and can read financial statements, tax returns and ATO portals with confidence.
- Solid understanding of low doc policy and when a deal fits it.
- Good knowledge of lender policy, servicing, security and exposure limits, and a desire to keep learning.
- A credit mind with personality: comfortable on the phone with clients, accountants and lender BDMs, and you enjoy building relationships.
- Highly organised, detail-focused, and able to manage a busy pipeline without letting anything stall.
- You take ownership. When a deal is yours, you drive it to approval.
- Commercially minded: you look for ways to get good deals done, not find reasons to decline them.
- Want to build something and lead it, with ambition to become a Head of Credit.
- Team-first and ego‑free: you’ll work closely with the MD, brokers, support and partnerships team.
- Sydney‑based (or willing to relocate).
- Knowledge of trucks, heavy machinery or vehicle finance is a big advantage.
