SIL - House Coordinator (Supported Independent Living)

Fortnightly Monday to Sunday 24/7 roster

Combination of direct support shifts and dedicate House Coordinator time

About the Role

As a Supported Independent Living (SIL) House Coordinator at What Ability, you will play a key leadership role within a SIL home, combining hands-on disability support with day-to-day leadership and house coordination.

You will work regular rostered support shifts alongside participants and support workers, while also having dedicated time each week to maintain house standards and complete administrative work.

This role is about creating a safe, calm, predictable, and participant-first home environment. You will be a stabilising presence within the home, ensuring support workers understand what is expected, participants receive consistent support, and the house operate to a high standard.

At all times, your core responsibility is to uphold the safety, dignity, rights, and well-being of the people you support.

About the House

This Supported Independent Living (SIL) home supports one resident with complex support needs on a 2:1 staffing model, 24/7. Because the home is built around one person, the team is small and consistent.

As House Coordinator, you’ll be the home's frontline manager. You’ll lead the team on the ground, set the standard of support on every shift, and shape a stable, predictable environment where the resident can thrive. You’ll report to a SIL Manager, who is accountable for thehouse's governance, including compliance, quality, and safeguarding, and who backs you up when complex situations arise.

The resident thrives on a rigid daily routine, and consistency is key to their wellbeing and regulation. You’ll make sure the routine is followed closely across every shift and that the whole team delivers it the same way, every time, whilst maintaining the What Ability standard.

The resident lives with a health condition that needs close monitoring and a prompt, confident response, guided by their individual health management plans. Training will be provided.

The residentmay also display complex,high-intensity behaviours of concern. This home needs a coordinator who is steady, patient and resilient, stays calm under pressure, sees the person behind the behaviour, and can model that approach for the team.

What You'll Be Responsible For

  • House operations and maintenance: coordinate day-to-day house requirements including general maintenance.
  • Leading and supporting staff: assist with induction within the home and model the expected standard of participant support from a worker's first shift.
  • Supporting daily living and independence: assist with personal routines, encourage skill-building, and maintain predictable, emotionally safe environments with a focus on active support.
  • Providing personal care: supporting hygiene, dressing, mobility, and toileting while upholding dignity, consent, privacy, and cultural preferences.
  • Health and medication support: Health and Wellbeing management including allied health reviews, medication management and escalating concerns as needed.
  • Behaviour support: implement Behaviour Support Plans using proactive, least-restrictive strategies; recognise early signs of escalation and respond calmly to distress or crisis.
  • Shared living and house dynamics: support respectful interactions between housemates, uphold house rules and safety standards, and prevent conflict or exploitation.
  • Community participation and activity support: facilitate engaging, safe, and inclusive activities aligned to participant goals; adapt in real time to ability, energy, sensory needs and risk.
  • Transport and logistics: safely transport participants to and from activities or appointments, manage schedules and time effectively, and ensure participants arrive safely.
  • Monitoring wellbeing and risk: actively observe participants for changes in mood, behaviour, health or fatigue, manage risks, and follow emergency procedures.
  • Documentation and reporting: review support plans, complete accurate progress and incident reports, and ensure records are uploaded in a timely manner.
