About the role

In cyber security, hoping threats won't happen isn't a strategy. Protecting a critical infrastructure organisation requires strong planning, modern security controls, and continual improvement.

As our Principal Cyber Security Engineer, you'll play a leading role in strengthening Water Corporation's cyber security capability and resilience.

You'll work across enterprise IT and Operational Technology (OT) environments, helping to design, implement, and continuously improve security controls that reduce risk and protect our people, systems, and services.

What the role will involve

As a highly experienced cyber security professional, you will:

  • Lead the design, implementation and validation of cyber security controls across IT and OT environments
  • Provide expert advice on cyber security architecture, security design and technology decisions
  • Support the Manager Cyber Security Engineering in delivering strategic security initiatives
  • Identify emerging threats, vulnerabilities and risks, recommending practical mitigation strategies
  • Participate in design reviews and provide security guidance for infrastructure, applications and technology projects
  • Contribute to the organisation's cyber security maturity program
  • Support incident response activities, including investigation, containment and remediation
  • Research and implement contemporary cyber security technologies, standards and practices
  • Promote secure-by-design principles across cloud, network and identity security domains

What the role will offer

This is an opportunity to influence cyber security outcomes at scale.

You'll work on a diverse portfolio of initiatives that strengthen organisational resilience and uplift cyber maturity across the business.

You will also benefit from:

  • Exposure to enterprise-scale cyber security challenges
  • Meaningful work protecting critical infrastructure
  • Opportunities to shape strategy and technical direction
  • Ongoing learning and professional growth
  • A supportive team environment that values collaboration and knowledge sharing

What you’ll bring to the role

We're looking for an experienced cyber security professional with strong technical expertise and a strategic mindset.

Ideally, you'll have:

  • A tertiary qualification in Information Technology, Cyber Security, Computer Science or a related discipline
  • Significant experience designing, implementing and managing cyber security controls
  • Strong expertise in cloud security, identity security and network security
  • Experience working within modern cloud environments, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), DevSecOps and Agile delivery models
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Experience planning, designing, procuring or operating cyber security infrastructure and services
  • The ability to communicate complex security concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • A passion for continuous improvement and staying current with emerging threats and technologies
