Our Zushi Surry Hills venue, operated by Wakame Pty Ltd, is centrally located on Crown Street and offers a vibrant dining experience with indoor, outdoor, and private dining spaces.
We are currently seeking a skilled and experienced full‑time Chef to join our team at our Surry Hills location.
About the Role
This is a full‑time position responsible for leading and coordinating kitchen operations, preparing high‑quality dishes, and ensuring consistency in food standards in a fast‑paced, modern Japanese restaurant environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook a variety of dishes in accordance with restaurant standards
- Assist in menu planning and development, including seasonal updates
- Ensure consistency in food quality, presentation, and portion control
- Supervise and guide kitchen staff where required
- Monitor food preparation and cooking processes
- Manage stock levels, ordering supplies, and minimising waste
- Ensure compliance with food safety standards and hygiene regulations
- Inspect raw ingredients and ensure proper storage of food
- Work collaboratively with front‑of‑house staff to ensure smooth service
- Maintain a clean and organised kitchen environment
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
Qualification:
- Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery, Diploma of Hospitality Management, or equivalent qualification
Experience & Skills:
- At least 1–2 years of relevant work experience as a Chef
- Strong knowledge of kitchen operations and food safety standards
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast‑paced environment
- Good organisational and time management skills
- A passion for food and delivering high‑quality dining experiences
