A little more voco, a little more you.

At voco Melbourne Central, we believe great guest experiences start with great people. As our HR Coordinator, you’ll play an important role in looking after the people who make our hotel what it is — supporting our team throughout their employee journey and helping create a workplace where everyone feels welcome, supported and ready to do their best.

We’re looking for a hands-on, organized and approachable HR Coordinator to join us on a part-time, fixed-term basis to cover maternity leave. If you enjoy a mix of recruitment, people support, HR administration and team engagement, and thrive in a fast-paced hospitality environment, we’d love to hear from you.

About the Role

Reporting to the General Manager, you’ll support the day-to-day running of our HR function, working closely with department leaders and team members across the hotel.

This is a part-time, fixed-term maternity leave cover position from 1 December 2026 to 12 September 2027, working onsite three days per week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

No two days in a hotel are quite the same, so you’ll need to be comfortable juggling priorities, building relationships and keeping things running smoothly behind the scenes.

Salary: $75,000-$80,000 + Superannuation (full-time equivalent), with the final offer based on your relevant HR experience, skills and knowledge of the HIGA Award. Salary will be pro-rata based on part-time hours.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Recruitment & Selection: Coordinate and post job advertisements, screen applications, arrange interviews, communicate with candidates and support department heads with the recruitment process.
  • Onboarding & Offboarding: Prepare employment contracts and new starter paperwork, coordinate pre-employment checks, organize inductions and manage exit processes.
  • HR Systems & Administration: Set up new starters across HR, payroll and hotel systems, coordinate account access, maintain employee files and ensure records are accurate and up to date and compliant.
  • People Support: Be an approachable first point of contact for general HR enquiries and assist managers and team members with HR policies, procedures and documentation.
  • Payroll Support: Assist with payroll administration, checking employee details, timesheets, leave records and relevant allowances to help ensure accurate and timely payroll processing in line with HIGA requirements.
  • Award Interpretation & Compliance: Apply a sound understanding of the Hospitality Industry General Award (HIGA), including classifications, pay rates, penalties, allowances and employment conditions.
  • Training & Induction: Coordinate new starter inductions, mandatory training, refresher sessions and training records.
  • Team Engagement & Culture: Help to organize team celebrations, recognition activities, wellbeing initiatives and employee engagement events to life.
  • Performance & Probation: Assist with probation reviews, performance review and documentations, and key employee lifecycle milestones.
  • HR Reporting & Compliance: Maintain accurate HR records, assist with reporting and audits, and support compliance with employment legislation and workplace requirements.
  • General HR Support: Assist with employee communications, uniform coordination, employment confirmations, HR projects and other day-to-day HR activities.

What We're Looking For

You’re someone who enjoys working with people just as much as keeping the details in order. You’re approachable, proactive and organized, with the confidence to manage competing priorities in a busy hospitality environment.

You’ll bring:

  • Previous experience in a Human Resources Coordinator, HR Administrator or similar role. Hotel or Hospitality HR experience will be highly regarded.
  • A good understanding of HIGA, with the ability to interpret and apply the Award accurately.
  • Knowledge of Australian employment legislation and employment documentation requirements.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Friendly communication skills and the confidence to build relationships with team members and leaders at all levels.
  • Confidence using Microsoft Office and HR systems, with the ability to learn new systems quickly.
  • Discretion and professionalism when handling confidential employee information.
  • A practical, hands-on approach and a willingness to roll up your sleeves and get things done.
  • Full working rights in Australia for the duration of the fixed-term contract.
