At Vision Eye Institute, we are proud to be one of Australia’s largest providers of ophthalmic care. Our purpose is clear - to improve the eye health and quality of life of our patients through clinical excellence, innovation, and compassionate care. With a national network of world-class surgeons, state-of-the-art technology, and a commitment to research and education, we are dedicated to delivering the best possible outcomes for our patients, every time.

Our Chatswood clinic is one of our largest and most dynamic practices, bringing together a team of highly experienced ophthalmologists, health professionals and support staff across a broad range of ophthalmic specialties. This is an opportunity to lead a large, high-volume specialist practice, working alongside some of Australia's most respected ophthalmic surgeons and an experienced team of 40+ people.

As Practice Manager, you will have overall responsibility for the leadership, performance and day-to-day operations of our Chatswood consulting and laser clinic. Leading a large multidisciplinary team, you will create an environment where exceptional patient care, strong operational performance and an engaged, capable team go hand in hand. Central to your success will be your ability to build trusted relationships with our doctors and understand what drives each of their practices. You will be comfortable navigating different perspectives, influencing senior stakeholders and knowing when to challenge, when to listen and when to bring people together around a shared outcome.

Just as importantly, you will build leadership capability within the clinic. You'll coach and develop our Team Leaders, establish clear accountability and empower them to lead their teams with confidence, rather than having every decision escalated to the Practice Manager. Chatswood is entering an exciting period of transition and growth, so we are looking for someone who sees opportunity in change. You'll be encouraged to challenge existing ways of working, identify what could be better and turn ideas into practical improvements.

Supported by an experienced clinic team and our broader corporate functions, you will have accountability for clinic performance, workforce planning, patient experience, operational improvement, quality and compliance, and the overall effectiveness of the practice.

We're looking for a confident, contemporary leader who combines strong people instincts with commercial and operational thinking. You won't need to have all the answers, but you'll know how to ask the right questions, bring people with you and turn strategy into action. You'll ideally bring:

  • Demonstrated leadership experience within a large or complex healthcare environment, ideally a specialist medical practice, private hospital, day hospital or similar clinician-led setting
  • Exceptional relationship-building and influencing skills, with the confidence to work alongside senior medical specialists and other highly experienced stakeholders
  • Strong judgement and emotional intelligence, with the ability to adapt your approach to different personalities and situations
  • A demonstrated ability to coach and develop other leaders, build accountability and create high-performing teams
  • Experience leading teams through change, including reviewing structures, roles, workflows and ways of working
  • A pragmatic, solutions-focused mindset with the confidence to challenge the status quo and try new approaches
  • Strong commercial acumen and an understanding of the operational drivers of a large healthcare practice
  • The ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume environment with competing priorities
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and conflict-resolution skills
  • Experience in ophthalmology or specialist medical practice would be highly regarded, but leadership capability and the ability to build strong relationships are more important to us than having worked in ophthalmology before.
