Vezzani Australia Pty Ltd is the Australian arm of the Vezzani group, which manufactures heavy shears, presses and scrap-metal processing systems for the scrap-processing and recycling industry. The company installs, commissions and services this equipment for customers across Australia and the Asia-Pacific.

About the role

This position is responsible for the on-site technical delivery of that machinery β€” erecting, assembling, installing, commissioning, testing and maintaining each machine at the customer's premises β€” and for supervising the site crews involved and providing the customer with on-site technical support as the manufacturer's representative.

Key duties and responsibilities

  • Study the manufacturer's mechanical drawings, assembly documentation and site specifications for each shear, press or scrap-metal processing system to determine the materials, the method and sequence of assembly and installation, and the machine settings required on the customer's site.
  • Erect and install Vezzani machinery on the customer's site, from foundation and positioning through to final assembly, commissioning, functional testing and operational handover.
  • Fit and assemble the fabricated metal parts, components and subassemblies of the machinery, building the equipment up from delivered parts into a complete, operating machine.
  • Check assembled parts for accuracy, clearance, alignment and fit using precision measuring instruments, adjusting and re-fitting components to the required tolerances.
  • Set up and adjust the guides, stops, dies and operating controls on the shears and presses during installation and commissioning so each machine runs to the manufacturer's prescribed settings.
  • Cut, thread, bend and install the hydraulic and pneumatic pipes and lines for each machine, bringing the hydraulic and fluid-power circuits up to operating condition.
  • Diagnose faults and perform operational maintenance, servicing, overhaul and repair of mechanical parts and fluid-power equipment on installed plant at customer sites across Australia and Asia.
  • Coordinate and supervise the customer's site personnel and installation crews during erection and commissioning, planning the sequence of work and directing the team to complete each installation safely and on schedule.
  • Provide on-site technical support, start-up assistance and troubleshooting to Vezzani's customers across Australia and internationally, including Asia, as the manufacturer's on-site technical representative.
  • Ensure all assembly, installation and commissioning work meets the manufacturer's technical specifications and quality standards and complies with Australian work-health-and-safety requirements.

Skills required

  • Certificate IV in Engineering (Mechanical Fitter / trade) plus at least 1 year of full-time relevant experience, OR at least 3 years of full-time relevant experience.
  • Mechanical fitting, assembly and precision alignment, including reading mechanical drawings.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical and hydraulic (fluid-power) systems.
  • Fault diagnosis, maintenance and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong commitment to workplace health and safety; willing to travel to customer sites.
