We are seeking a commercially minded Senior Finance Manager to support our Japan business and act as a trusted partner to local and international stakeholders.

About the role

This is a senior, hands-on finance leadership role with responsibility for financial control, reporting, planning and commercial decision support. You will work closely with business leaders in Japan and the broader international finance network, translating financial insights into clear actions.

The role requires outstanding written and spoken Japanese and English. You must be able to operate confidently in both languages across executive discussions, financial reporting, presentations and day-to-day stakeholder communication. The role requires flexibility to work Japanese business hours when reasonably required to collaborate effectively with local leaders and stakeholders. Regular travel to Japan will be required from time to time.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead accurate and timely month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Prepare management accounts, financial analysis and reporting for senior stakeholders.
  • Own budgeting, forecasting, cash flow planning and performance tracking.
  • Partner with business leaders to improve revenue quality, profitability and cash generation.
  • Analyse financial and operational performance, including revenue, margins, costs and key business drivers.
  • Maintain strong financial controls and support statutory, tax and audit requirements.
  • Review customer and supplier contracts from a financial and commercial perspective.
  • Present financial results and recommendations clearly in both Japanese and English.
  • Coordinate effectively between Japanese-speaking and English-speaking stakeholders.
  • Support process improvement, systems enhancement, automation and finance transformation initiatives.
  • Contribute to acquisition due diligence and post-acquisition integration where required.
  • Champion the practical adoption of AI-enabled finance tools, analytics and automation to improve insight, efficiency and scalability.

About you

You are a practical and credible finance leader who combines strong technical accounting skills with sound commercial judgement. You are comfortable working independently, challenging constructively and building trusted relationships across cultures and time zones.

Essential experience and capabilities

  • Professional accounting qualification such as CA, CPA, ACCA, CIMA or an equivalent recognised qualification.
  • Significant experience in a Finance Manager, Financial Controller or comparable senior finance role.
  • Advanced professional proficiency in Japanese, including written and verbal business communication.
  • Advanced professional proficiency in English, including written and verbal business communication.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare, review and present financial information in both Japanese and English.
  • Flexibility to work Japanese business hours when needed to collaborate effectively with local leaders and stakeholders.
  • Availability and willingness to undertake regular travel to Japan.
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting, controls, budgeting, forecasting and cash flow management.
  • Advanced financial analysis and Excel skills.
  • Ability to explain complex financial matters clearly to both finance and non-finance audiences.
  • Confidence working with senior stakeholders in a multicultural, international environment.
  • High standards of accuracy, ownership, confidentiality and follow-through.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Salesforce and NetSuite, including reporting, data analysis and finance workflows.

Highly regarded

  • Experience in software, technology, SaaS or another recurring-revenue business.
  • Experience within a multinational or decentralised group structure.
  • M&A experience, including acquisitions, due diligence, integration or business transformation, is highly valued.
  • Experience with ERP and reporting platforms such as NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, Power BI or similar tools.
  • Experience applying AI-enabled finance tools, intelligent automation and advanced analytics to improve forecasting, reporting, controls and decision support.

Language requirement

This is a genuinely bilingual role. Applicants must be able to conduct senior business discussions, prepare high-quality written communication, present financial results and explain complex financial concepts to professional standards in both Japanese and English, as the role regularly supports stakeholders, customers and business operations across both language environments. Language capability may be assessed during the recruitment process. Only candidates who can demonstrate a very high professional standard in both languages will be considered.

Join a global software group with a long-term approach to business ownership and growth. Partner directly with senior leaders and influence commercial and operational decisions.
