WHO WE ARE
Valont is a Brisbane professional services group. We buy good, profitable accounting, finance, HR, IT and advisory firms that serve small and medium sized businesses, and we run them better together. We are part of Wattlestone, a Brisbane based private investment firm. Our first acquisition is complete and three more firms have terms agreed and due diligence under way.
The team is small and senior. Our founder has built very successful technology backed operating businesses before, and the executives around the table have done this kind of thing before too. The structure is flat. We build our own operating platform rather than adding headcount, so the people we hire get a lot of scope early.
THE ROLE
You will own the accounts and results of the Valont Group: Valont HQ and every firm we acquire. Month end and consolidation, statutory accounts, BAS, payroll tax and FBT, the workpapers our external advisers need for income tax, the 13 week cash forecast, and performance reporting to the executives and the Board. When we buy a firm, you bring its books onto the Group's AI powered systems. You report to the CFO and work with him day to day.
The finance operations behind all of that (payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliation and expenses) run on AI processes that our engineers build with you. Your part is the accountant's part: decide what each process must do and what the controls are, check what comes out, and fix what is wrong. Nobody expects you to have done this before. If you have run an audit or closed a month end and have always looked for more efficient ways of working and used technology to get there, you already have the instinct it takes.
You join while the Group is small, so the way you set things up now is the way the Group will run when it is many times the size.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Most likely you qualified inside a business and have run a month end yourself, or you are an Audit Senior or Assistant Manager at a Big Four or national mid tier firm, three to five years in, CA or CPA qualified, and ready to make your first move into a business. Either way, we are hiring for aptitude and attitude over a long CV.
You will need:
- CA or CPA, with three to five years in an accounting firm or a finance function.
- Sound accounting. You have prepared or audited financial statements, understand consolidation, and have handled or tested BAS, payroll tax and FBT.
- Curiosity. You ask why a task is done the way it is, and you are comfortable learning new tools. Strong Excel is expected; anything beyond that is a bonus.
- A self starter who works well with others. Nobody here will hand you a task list. You will find the work and build it with the CFO, the engineers and the wider business.
- Authorised to work in Australia.
