Provide environmental advice across operational activities and capital projects. Drive environmental compliance, risk management and continuous improvement.

As an Environment Advisor at Unitywater, you’ll provide environmental advice and support across water and wastewater operations and capital projects, helping ensure compliance with Queensland environmental legislation, regulatory approvals and operating licences. You’ll undertake site inspections and environmental audits, support incident investigations, review environmental management plans, analyse environmental monitoring data and contribute to continuous improvement and sustainability initiatives.

Working closely with operational teams, contractors and project stakeholders, you’ll play an important role in identifying and managing environmental risks, promoting good environmental practices and improving environmental performance across the Moreton Bay, Sunshine Coast and Noosa regions. You’ll enjoy a varied working environment, with approximately half your time spent in the office and half in the field. A tool-of-trade vehicle will be provided to support your work. The role also includes a weekend on-call roster approximately once every five weeks (daytime only, with no overnight on-call requirement). Flexibility and adaptability are important, as you’ll help respond to operational environmental matters when required. This is a full-time, permanent opportunity, with an immediate start preferred.

You’ll join Unitywater’s People, Safety and Governance business unit, working alongside a collaborative Safety and Environment team and partnering with operational teams, project managers, contractors and external stakeholders. Together, you’ll support safe, compliant and sustainable water and wastewater operations while driving continuous improvement and positive environmental outcomes for the communities Unitywater serves.

To contribute to this, you will demonstrate the following skills and qualities for the role:

  • You hold a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management or a related discipline.
  • You have knowledge of Queensland environmental legislation, regulatory requirements and environmental compliance.
  • You have experience in environmental inspections, audits, incident investigations and reporting.
  • You can review environmental management plans and provide practical advice to contractors and operational teams.
  • You have strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build effective stakeholder relationships.
  • You are confident analysing environmental data, preparing reports and using Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • You hold a current C Class Driver’s Licence and Construction Induction (White) Card.
  • Experience in utilities, infrastructure or civil construction is highly regarded, as is knowledge of GIS, erosion and sediment control, water quality sampling and laboratory practices.
