Make a meaningful difference

At UnitingCare we are leaders in crisis response, the protection of vulnerable people and children, financial resilience, and family wellbeing. Our FaDS (Family and Disability Services) team work passionately across Queensland to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.

Your part in our UnitingCare team

The Intensive Family Support Service assists vulnerable families with complex needs who are at risk of entering the child protection system. Our voluntary service supports families in their homes, generally through weekly visits for up to 12 months. This enables us to work collaboratively with families to keep children safe and achieve meaningful family goals.

As a Child and Family Case Worker, you will lead case management with families in a fast-paced, high-volume environment, helping them identify and prioritise their concerns.

This role involves:

  • Providing a combination of therapeutic support and practical in-home assistance to vulnerable families with complex needs who may be difficult to engage.
  • Actively engaging with families, completing assessments and developing collaborative case plans that prioritise their presenting concerns.
  • Supporting families to access appropriate specialist services.

What makes a difference for us?

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher in social work, human services, psychology or a related discipline is preferred. Applicants with a diploma in a related field and at least two years’ experience working as a Case Worker will also be considered.
  • At least 2 years’ experience in case management and child protection, working directly with families, children and young people with complex needs.
  • Current knowledge and understanding of domestic and family violence and its impact on children.
  • An understanding of First Nations peoples, cultures and communities, including the issues that may affect them.
  • A commitment to culturally safe practice.
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of attachment theory, trauma-informed practice and child development.
  • A current Queensland Working with Children Check, or Blue Card.
  • A current open Queensland driver’s licence.
  • Eligibility to work in Australia.

What makes a difference for you?

  • Flexible work arrangements to support work-life balance.
  • NFP Salary Packaging: Save tax and increase your take home pay by salary packaging your everyday living expenses and bills (up to $15,900) and meal entertainment (up to $2,650) per annum.
  • A recognition and rewards platform, providing employee discounts at hundreds of retailers, including everyday expenses, holidays, health insurance, annual awards celebration, wellbeing and employee assistance programs.
  • 12 weeks paid parental leave and 2 weeks paid partner leave, available after 6 months service, in addition to the government scheme.
  • Diversity and inclusive leave, offering paid gender affirmation leave and cultural leave options (paid and unpaid) for those who may celebrate Lunar New Year, Diwali, Ramadan, NAIDOC weeks and other significant cultural events.
  • Career development opportunities to challenge yourself, grow and make a meaningful difference.
  • A positive and inclusive team based on respect, shared standards, strong values and a commitment to serving others.
