Network Engineer | Hamilton Island | Subsidised Accommodation
Ever thought about swapping the daily commute for island life?
Triniti is partnering with one of Australia’s most iconic island resorts to find a Network Engineer to join their IT team on Hamilton Island.
This is a hands‑on role looking after a large, varied network that spans the whole island: hotels, restaurants, retail, marina and back‑of‑house operations.
The network is in the middle of a transformation.
Fortinet is in place, the end‑node network is moving to GPON, and lots more over the next 18 months.
Your timing is good: you’ll help finish the job and learn a lot along the way.
You’ll join a close‑knit team working across the island and the Sydney office, working closely with the existing network lead who sets the technical direction.
Expect a good amount of support & hands‑on training to start with as you get up to speed with the Network, then you’ll get autonomy as you grow into the role.
- What you’ll be doing
- Being the go‑to person for network incidents and triage, working through tickets and resolving issues across the island and other locations
- Supporting and maintaining LAN, WAN and Wi Fi infrastructure, including firewalls, routers, core and edge switches, and cabling
- Getting hands‑on with Fortinet and helping to complete the GPON rollout and HP switch replacement
- Monitoring network performance, internet gateways and alerts
- Moving into project work over time: planning, testing, change management and handover
- Working with vendors and keeping up with new releases and updates
- Helping the Help Desk during busy periods and acting as the escalation point for critical issues (typically about once a month, not a formal roster)
- Spotting ways to make the network more stable, secure and reliable
- Occasional trips to Sydney to help with projects there
- What you’ll bring
- Minimum 2-3 years of solid networking experience, ideally from a network support, incident or helpdesk triage background
- Networking training or certification. CCNA is welcome but not essential, as long as you’ve done network‑specific study
- Good knowledge of TCP/IP, routing, VPNs and network security
- Fortinet experience is a plus. GPON is great but you can learn it on the job
- A self‑starter who’s happy working independently and owning their work
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
You’ll deal with people across every part of the business, so you need to be friendly, approachable and able to explain technical issues in plain English
- Why you’ll love it
- Subsidised accommodation on Hamilton Island
- A unique place to work, in a resort setting
- Real variety, with exposure to many different business areas and stakeholders
- Hands‑on training and support while you find your feet
- A network in transformation, so you’ll build modern skills and move into project work
- Autonomy and trust to manage your own work
- The process
The process has a few stages: a first interview with the IT Operations Manager and the network lead, then a chat with the IT Architect, and finally a visit to the island to meet the team and stakeholders.
