With a career at the TAC, you'll be helping us look out for the lives of everyone who travels on Victoria's roads. Right now, we are seeking a Solicitor who will play their part in this shared purpose, while also supporting the progress of clients and colleagues so they can achieve great things.

As a Solicitor at the TAC, you'll play a pivotal role in our strategy to provide fair, client-focused outcomes, directly impacting the lives of Victorians by ensuring access to justice and just compensation. You will manage a dynamic portfolio of litigated and non-litigated matters pursuant to the Transport Accident Act. From no-fault disputes and VCAT applications to serious injury applications, common law claims, and prosecutions, you'll advocate for fairness while providing the TAC with specialised and considered legal advice.

  • Advocate with Impact: Represent TAC in courts and tribunals, including VCAT, Magistrates', County, and Supreme Courts, using your dispute resolution and litigation expertise to drive fair outcomes.
  • Build relationships: Work with plaintiff solicitors, medical experts, courts and other key stakeholders, leveraging your influence and negotiation skills to achieve just results.
  • Innovate and Solve: Apply analytical and strategic thinking to interpret complex legislation, manage diverse cases, and resolve disputes through formal litigation or alternative dispute resolution methods.
  • Contribute to the Community: Support the TAC's purpose by ensuring our scheme delivers life-critical services, directly improving lives across Victoria.

You'll join the TAC's Client's Division, a dynamic area of the organisation dedicated to supporting decision-making pursuant to the Transport Accident Act and delivering exceptional outcomes for Victorians. This is more than just a legal role; it's a chance to contribute to the community. With no billable hours, a focus on collaboration, and flexible working, you'll find balance and purpose.

What we're looking for:

  • Extensive legal experience including knowledge of the Transport Accident Act, common law principles and other relevant legislation and legal policy.
  • Extensive knowledge of the Courts and Tribunal rules, processes and procedures in all relevant jurisdictions.
  • Demonstrated high degree of proficiency in managing complex litigation across various jurisdictions (including at VCAT, County and Supreme Courts).
  • Extensive litigation and alternative dispute resolution experience.
  • Highly developed problem solving, time management, and organisational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise judgment, with the ability to influence, negotiate and work under demanding timeframes with changing priorities.
  • Demonstrated experience in building relationships with stakeholders, including clients, the legal fraternity, and medical practitioners.

There's more to work than a competitive salary and amazing employee benefits. As our newest Solicitor, you'll also:

  • Make a positive difference: Every day the work you do at the TAC contributes to something bigger.
  • Be rewarded for great work: We value our people, offering a corporate incentive, salary packaging and a reward and recognition program.
  • Grow and go places: We're invested in your progress. When you work for one of Victoria's largest and leading workplaces, you'll receive extensive internal opportunities for development and access to the LinkedIn Learning Digital Hub.

Ready to put care in action? We’d like to hear from you. Applications for this role will be accepted up until 11:55pm on Tuesday, 6th of October.

A safe place to work: We're committed to the health, safety and wellbeing of employees. This extends to inclusion, diversity and accessibility in our employment practices, and encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people with disability, men, women and gender diverse people, culturally diverse, and LGBTIQA+ people to apply for roles.

Child Safety: At the TAC we are committed to the safety of children and young people. This role will require you to have a valid Working with Children Check.
