Tract is one of Australia's leading award-winning national design firms, bringing together the disciplines of Landscape Architecture, Urban Design, Town Planning and 3D Media to create high-quality design and innovation outcomes across a diverse range of projects.

We're looking for a Senior Urban Designer who wants to help shape the next generation of Australian communities. Join Tract's Melbourne office and work on some of the country's most significant masterplanned communities and urban growth projects. You'll work on projects ranging from:

  • An award-winning 5,000-home community for an ASX-listed developer.
  • A transformative 4,000-home adaptive reuse and regeneration project in regional Victoria.
  • PSP advocacy for 3,500-homes in growth areas, and other structure planning projects alongside major national and international development partners.
  • Smaller scale residential developments and affordable housing projects with key clients and architectural design partners.
  • Urban design frameworks to deliver town centres and precincts that will influence how future Australians live, work and connect.

This role isn't just about plan production. You'll help shape development outcomes through strategic thinking, stakeholder engagement, design leadership and collaboration with some of Australia's leading planners, landscape architects, and urban designers. This role offers the opportunity to shape the growth areas of Victoria through carefully considered master planning, respectful Traditional Owner engagement, ecological and environmental design initiatives, and strong industry relationships.

Guided by our in-house experts, you'll work directly with clients to navigate complex project challenges and identify the best pathway forward. You’ll join an established national urban design team and work alongside experienced urban designers, planners and landscape architects who are actively shaping communities across Victoria and Australia. You’ll be part of a genuinely multidisciplinary design environment, contributing to projects from early visioning through planning approvals and delivery.

The successful applicant will have:

  • 5+ years' experience in urban design and masterplanning, ideally within greenfield and new communities projects.
  • Experience leading or contributing to masterplanned communities, structure plans, urban design frameworks, subdivision design projects and feasibility studies.
  • Strong project management and client relationship skills, with the ability to coordinate multidisciplinary consultant teams through planning, design and approval phases.
  • Confidence managing multiple projects simultaneously and delivering high-quality outcomes on time and within budget.
  • Excellent design, graphic, verbal and written communication skills, including report writing and client presentations.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing masterplans, subdivision layouts, yield analysis and design documentation.
  • Strong technical capabilities across Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop) and spatial mapping platforms such as QGIS.
  • Experience using CAD platforms such as AutoCAD or MicroStation (MicroStation experience advantageous but not essential).
  • A recognised qualification in Urban Design, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Planning or a related discipline.
  • A collaborative mindset and enthusiasm for working within a multidisciplinary design team.

Professional development opportunities include attending conferences, seminars, courses, and working with in-house, design-based disciplines. We offer paid parental leave, scholarships, income protection insurance, and an employee assistance program. Free access to a health and wellbeing program comprising general practitioners, psychologists, dietitians and health coaches is also available.
