CFOB delivers a broad range of financial advice and services to the Treasury in line with the Government’s financial and compliance framework, including the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013. The Branch is responsible for financial accounting and external reporting, budgeting, financial framework compliance, financial systems, travel policy and property services.

The External Reporting Team is responsible for the Treasury’s annual and monthly financial reporting and all external reporting obligations. This includes preparing the departmental and administered financial statements, managing the annual audit process with the Australian National Audit Office, delivering monthly reporting to the Department of Finance, and managing appropriations, cash and administered payments. The Team also provides accounting and taxation support across the department.

  • Leading the team to prepare monthly reporting to the Department of Finance, supported by reconciliations, trend analysis and variance reporting.
  • Developing the team to investigate, research and resolve complex financial accounting issues, supported with detailed technical accounting position papers, with reference to Australian Accounting Standards and Whole of Government requirements.
  • Providing guidance and mentorship to the team to ensure they have the skills and capabilities to achieve the team's outcomes as per the financial statement project plan and annual work plan.
  • Engaging with accounting experts, policy areas and other agencies on the recording and reporting of administered items.
  • Provision of high-level accounting and related technical advice and recommendations to the Chief Finance Officer, the business, and executives.
