The Sydney String Centre is Sydney's leading specialist in orchestral string instruments: violins, violas, cellos and double basses. We're a family-owned business that has been operating for over 30 years, with a focus on music education and on supporting musicians with quality instruments and accessories, both in-store and online. Our team includes musicians, music teachers, violinmakers, digital media producers and industrial designers. We aim to give our customers the best service in the industry, and we bring that same care to how we work with each other. It runs across our retail store, workshop, online store, instrument manufacturing, wholesale and education departments.

THE ROLE

We're looking for a Dispatch and Warehouse Assistant to join our team at our High St, Chatswood location. You'll perform dispatch tasks for the whole business, including online, education, wholesale, rentals and general sales, with a focus on business-to-business. It's a varied, hands-on role with plenty of support from the people around you. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Picking, packing and sending orders across all areas of the business
  • Maintaining the warehouse, including restocking, reorganising, tidying and collapsing cardboard for recycling
  • Receiving shipments: unpacking containers and pallets, labelling stock and putting it away
  • Completing scheduled stock takes, carrying out spot checks when discrepancies come up, and updating shelf locations
  • Organising and ordering packing materials
  • Making deliveries across Sydney metro in the company van (automatic)
  • Moving stock between our company locations
  • Occasionally helping with online order enquiries
  • Learning about our products so every shipment arrives safely

This is a full-time position, Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm.

ABOUT YOU

You'll have:

  • The ability to work quickly and efficiently while keeping attention to detail
  • The ability and willingness to lift boxes of stock
  • A friendly, helpful nature, with self-motivation and initiative
  • Enthusiasm for learning new products, systems and processes
  • Good communication skills with customers and colleagues
  • An openness to improving processes and accepting change
  • Basic computer skills

Preferred but not required:

  • Experience in a warehouse, retail or wholesale environment

Full training is provided in the systems we use: Microsoft Teams for internal communications, Odoo for CRM and Shopify for our web stores. Previous experience with any of these is a bonus. We're looking for someone reliable and punctual who takes pride in their presentation and their work, and who works well both independently and as part of a team.

WORKING WITH US

We're a close, friendly team, and we put real time into helping our people learn and grow. Working here, you can expect:

  • A supportive team and a good work/life balance, with regular weekday hours
  • Training in leadership and problem solving
  • Staff discounts on all our products
  • Product training sessions, along with plenty of learning on the job
  • Insight into how a retail, wholesale and manufacturing business operates
  • The chance to learn about making and maintaining orchestral string instruments through our workshop
  • Experience in a lean business, where everyone is encouraged to suggest and make improvements
