Join a startup PR & Communications company in Liverpool. PR & Communications teams inside fast-moving startups don't get the luxury of a settled playbook. Budgets shift, priorities shift, and the story you're telling investors this quarter might need rewriting by the next. This growing Liverpool business is looking for a Communications Director who can build that story from the ground up, and hold it together while everything else around it moves.
Here's what you'll be doing:
- Shape and deliver the company's overall communications strategy, from media relations to internal messaging.
- Write and approve press releases, statements, and thought leadership pieces that actually sound like something a person wrote.
- Build relationships with journalists, industry commentators, and key partners across the North West and beyond.
- Manage crisis communications when they arise, and put plans in place so fewer of them do.
- Brief senior leadership ahead of interviews, panels, and public appearances.
- Track coverage and sentiment, then adjust the approach based on what's actually landing.
Here are the skills you'll need:
- Solid experience in PR & Communications, ideally with some agency or in-house leadership under your belt.
- Sharp, persuasive writing that holds up whether it's a press release or a board update.
- Comfort with ambiguity. Startups rewrite the brief halfway through, and that needs to feel normal, not stressful.
- A working media contact book, or at least the confidence to build one quickly.
- Calm judgement under pressure, particularly when a story isn't going the way you planned.
- Willingness to get involved outside the job description. This is a flat structure, and everyone pitches in.
Key perks and benefits:
- Β£45,500 to Β£65,500, depending on experience.
- Hybrid working, based in Liverpool.
- Equity in the business, so the upside is genuinely yours too.
- Flexible hours built around how you actually work best.
- A proper learning and development budget, plus a remote-friendly culture when you need it.
Why pursue a career in PR & Communications? Good communicators are in short supply and every business, startup or otherwise, needs someone who can tell its story straight. Liverpool has become a genuinely strong base for PR & Communications talent, with a growing cluster of agencies and in-house teams that rival anything in London. Get good at this work and the ceiling is high: agency leadership, in-house director roles, or building out your own consultancy further down the line.
