Perfect role for a mid professional looking to grow their Financial Services career in Cambridge.

Cambridge's financial services sector has quietly become one of the more interesting places in the UK to build a career, sitting alongside the city's tech and life sciences firms rather than in a traditional banking district. This particular business is a growing startup that needs sharper financial reporting and analysis as it scales. The Finance Analyst joining now will shape how numbers get tracked and used, not just maintain a system someone else built.

Here’s what you’ll be doing:

Building and maintaining financial models to support budgeting, forecasting and monthly reporting

Analysing revenue, cost and margin data to flag trends before they become problems

Preparing management accounts and board‑ready reports on a tight monthly cycle

Working directly with founders and department heads to explain what the numbers mean in practice

Supporting cash flow forecasting and helping manage runway, which matters more at a startup than almost anywhere else

Improving financial processes and systems as the company grows, often from scratch

Here are the skills you’ll need:

A degree in finance, accounting, economics or a related field, or equivalent experience

Two to four years’ experience in a finance or analyst role, ideally within Financial Services

Strong Excel skills; comfort with financial modelling software or BI tools is a bonus

Sharp attention to detail. A Finance Analyst who misses a decimal point costs more than one who works slowly

Confidence communicating financial concepts to non‑finance people

A part‑qualification (ACCA, CIMA or similar) is useful but not essential for this role

Key perks and benefits:

Salary of £35,500 to £53,000, depending on experience

Hybrid working, with time split between the Cambridge office and home

Equity or stock options, so the work you put in has a real stake attached

Flexible hours and a genuinely remote‑friendly culture

A learning and development budget you’re expected to actually use

Why pursue a career in Financial Services?

Financial Services rewards people who can turn raw numbers into decisions, and that skill only gets more valuable as companies grow. Cambridge adds something extra here: a dense network of ambitious startups and scale‑ups that need finance professionals who can move fast and think independently. A Finance Analyst who cuts their teeth in this kind of environment tends to progress quicker than one sitting inside a large, slow‑moving institution.
