We have an opportunity for an experienced, qualified Senior Health & Safety Advisor to join our team, working with our client Southern Water. This is a key role supporting our operational teams to deliver work safely, promote colleague wellbeing and continually improve Health & Safety standards across the contract. You’ll take a hands-on approach, working across multiple sites and building strong relationships with teams on the ground to provide practical advice and support. This isn’t a desk-based advisory role. You’ll be out on site, understanding the challenges our teams face, promoting positive safety behaviours and helping to find solutions that work in practice.
Here are some of the activities you will be involved in:
- Carrying out regular site inspections, audits and behavioural safety observations to check compliance and support safe systems of work.
- Providing practical Health & Safety advice and guidance to operational teams and colleagues at all levels.
- Supporting and leading accident and incident investigations, identifying root causes and recommending improvements to prevent recurrence.
- Promoting positive safety behaviours, encouraging hazard reporting and delivering ABC (Attitude, Behaviour and Culture) tours.
- Supporting operational teams to meet their Health, Safety and Wellbeing objectives and follow relevant legislation, company procedures and best practice.
- Identifying gaps in Health & Safety processes and helping to improve systems, procedures and overall performance.
- Providing Health & Safety input into tenders, bids and operational planning.
- Communicating changes in legislation and supporting the implementation of new requirements and working practices.
- Supporting safe working conditions across a range of operational and site environments, while considering environmental impacts and colleague wellbeing.
We would love to hear from you if:
- You’re an experienced Health & Safety professional with a strong operational background in construction, utilities, water or civil engineering.
- You’ll have a sound understanding of current Health, Safety and Environmental legislation and at least five years’ experience in a similar advisory role.
- You’ll be confident working across multiple sites, building relationships and influencing colleagues at all levels.
- A practical, solutions-focused approach is essential, along with the ability to engage teams, promote best practice and support a positive safety culture.
- A NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate (or equivalent) is essential, along with Tech IOSH membership.
- Progression towards Graduate IOSH, or equivalent, would be desirable.
- You’ll also need a full UK driving licence and be flexible to travel across the region, with some flexibility in working hours to support operational requirements.
- Good IT skills, including experience using Microsoft Office and database systems, are also required.
