Our client is a large and complex organisation investing in a modern Enterprise Data Platform to deliver scalable, trusted data products that support reporting, analytics, and advanced data use cases across the business. The platform is built on Microsoft Azure using a Medallion Architecture (Bronze, Silver, Gold) and leverages technologies including Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, Alation, Azure DevOps, and Power BI.
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Business Analyst – Enterprise Data Platform / Data Product Delivery to define and manage business and functional requirements for enterprise data products.
Working closely with Data Product Managers, Data Engineers, Data Modellers, and business stakeholders, you will translate business needs into clear and structured requirements that guide data ingestion, modelling, transformation, and delivery activities.
The role has a strong focus on data product requirements, business rules, metric definitions, data quality, transformation requirements, scope management, and stakeholder alignment. You will help reduce delivery ambiguity and rework by ensuring requirements, risks, dependencies, assumptions, and decision points are clearly understood and documented.

Experience: 5+ years in Business Analysis across data, analytics, or data platform programs
Key Accountabilities and Outcomes
- Analyse source systems and data structures to understand data availability and ingestion requirements.
- Conduct data profiling and exploratory analysis to assess completeness, usability, and transformation requirements.
- Identify high-level data lineage from source systems through to downstream data products.
- Define business metrics, measures, and reporting requirements.
- Document business rules and transformation requirements across Bronze, Silver, and Gold platform layers.
- Define data product purpose, scope, requirements, and intended outcomes.
- Develop clear functional requirements and transformation logic for curated datasets.
- Document metric definitions and business terminology to promote consistent interpretation.
- Define data quality rules and validation criteria for trusted data products.
- Develop functional test scenarios to validate delivered requirements.
- Work with Data Product Managers to translate business priorities into structured requirements.
- Collaborate with Data Engineers and Data Modellers to ensure requirements are technically feasible and clearly understood.
- Support business stakeholders and Product Owners in defining and validating expected outcomes.
- Translate complex data concepts into clear, business-focused language.
- Facilitate discussions around scope, metric definitions, data definitions, and business rules.
- Contribute to feature-level backlog definition within Azure DevOps.
- Participate in backlog refinement and sprint discussions where requirements clarification is required.
- Assist with User Acceptance Testing (UAT) coordination.
- Document and track scope decisions, assumptions, risks, constraints, and dependencies.
- Maintain visibility of scope boundaries and assess the impact of proposed changes.
- Document options, trade-offs, and implications to support effective decision-making.
- Provide structured updates on delivery status, risks, dependencies, and emerging issues.
Desired Experience and Capabilities
- Minimum 5+ years' experience as a Business Analyst working across data, analytics, or data platform programs.
- Demonstrated experience defining requirements for enterprise data and analytics solutions.
- Experience working with Azure-based data platforms and Lakehouse architectures.
- Strong understanding of Medallion Architecture including Bronze, Silver, and Gold layers.
- Experience working closely with Data Engineers and Data Modellers.
- Strong capability documenting business rules, data definitions, metrics, and transformation requirements.
- Experience defining data quality rules, validation criteria, and functional test scenarios.
- Ability to analyse source systems and understand data availability, lineage, and dependencies.
- Proven experience managing scope, risks, assumptions, dependencies, and requirements traceability.
- Strong ability to structure complex problems and document options and trade-offs.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement, facilitation, and communication skills.
- Experience supporting Agile data product delivery environments.
Skills Requirements
- Data Business Analysis – Strong experience translating business needs into structured data and analytics requirements.
- Data Product Requirements – Ability to define scope, outcomes, functional requirements, metrics, business rules, and transformation logic for data products.
- Azure Data Platforms – Understanding of Azure-based enterprise data platforms and Lakehouse architectures.
- Medallion Architecture – Strong understanding of Bronze, Silver, and Gold data layers and how information is transformed through the platform.
- Data Analysis & Profiling – Ability to assess source data, identify data availability and quality considerations, and support transformation requirements.
- Data Quality & Lineage – Experience documenting quality rules, validation requirements, source-to-target considerations, and high-level data lineage.
- Stakeholder Engagement – Ability to work effectively across business stakeholders, Product Managers, Data Engineers, and Data Modellers.
- Scope & Requirements Management – Strong capability managing requirements, scope boundaries, dependencies, assumptions, risks, and change impacts.
- Agile Delivery Support – Experience contributing to backlogs, refinement sessions, sprint discussions, functional validation, and UAT activities.
Desirable Experience
- Experience with Azure Data Factory.
- Experience or familiarity with Databricks and Delta Lake.
- Familiarity with Power BI semantic models and enterprise reporting requirements.
- Experience with data catalogue and governance tools such as Alation or Unity Catalog.
