Full job description

Opportunity for an experienced HR Business Partner to join a global organisation within the rail transport manufacturing industry on a 12-month fixed term contract.

Supporting a site in Ballarat, this role serves as the primary HR presence on site and partners closely with operational and senior leaders to deliver a broad range of people initiatives and day-to-day HR support.

This is a true generalist opportunity where you will play a key role in supporting leaders through employee relations matters, industrial relations activity, workforce planning, change initiatives and performance management, while helping continue the site's people and leadership capability journey.

The environment is highly operational, unionised and relationship-driven, making this an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys being visible within the business, building credibility with stakeholders and working closely with leaders to achieve practical outcomes.

You’ll join a global business with a strong presence in Victoria and the opportunity to contribute to work that keeps communities connected and supports critical transport infrastructure across the state.

Key responsibilities

  • Act as the primary HR contact for a large operational site, providing trusted advice and support across the full employee lifecycle.
  • Partner with leaders to deliver generalist HR support including performance management, employee relations, workforce planning and organisational effectiveness initiatives.
  • Coach and support managers through performance improvement, disciplinary matters and complex people challenges.
  • Support the resolution of industrial and employee relations matters and maintain effective relationships within a unionised environment.
  • Provide guidance on employment legislation, awards, enterprise agreements, contracts, policies and workplace obligations.
  • Support organisational change initiatives and HR projects with a strong people and IR focus.
  • Lead key annual people processes including performance reviews, remuneration reviews, succession planning and objective setting.
  • Deliver governance and workplace behaviour education to managers and leaders, including Respect at Work initiatives.
  • Support site communication and leadership capability programs to improve engagement and accountability.
  • Utilise people data and reporting to provide insights and support decision-making.
  • Contribute to the ongoing maturity and adoption of manager self-service practices and HR systems.

About you

  • Located in Ballarat or surrounding areas, able to work on-site and available immediately.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Human Resources or a related discipline.
  • Approximately 5-10 years' experience in a generalist HR Business Partner or HR Manager role.
  • Experience working within industrial, manufacturing, infrastructure, logistics, construction, utilities or other operational environments.
  • Exposure to enterprise agreements, industrial relations, employee relations and union engagement.
  • Strong knowledge of employment legislation and contemporary HR practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence, coach and build credibility with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience working within a complex or matrix organisational structure.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to provide commercially balanced HR advice.
  • A practical, hands-on approach and willingness to spend time on the floor building relationships and understanding the business.
