Talent International is partnering with the Australian Federal Police Association (AFPA) to recruit a General Manager based in Canberra.

Reporting to the CEO/President, you will lead the association's day-to-day business and deliver its strategic priorities across finance, governance, people and member services.

This opportunity will suit an accomplished leader who can manage a multidisciplinary team and translate strategy into measurable improvements in organisational performance.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage operations across finance, business services, people and membership.
  • Oversee budgets, financial reporting and business planning.
  • Support governance, statutory reporting, risk and compliance requirements.
  • Lead and develop staff, setting clear expectations and supporting effective service delivery.
  • Improve processes and support initiatives to grow and retain membership.
  • Identify and evaluate commercial partnerships and additional revenue opportunities, presenting recommendations to the CEO/President.

About you

You are an experienced General Manager, operations leader or senior corporate services professional who enjoys working across a broad range of business functions.

You will bring:

  • Strong financial and business management skills.
  • Experience leading teams and improving operational performance.
  • Sound judgement in governance, risk and compliance.
  • The ability to build trusted relationships and provide practical advice to senior leaders.
  • Commercial awareness and an understanding of how partnerships can create value.
  • Confidence working in a politically and industrially sensitive environment.

Experience in a member based association, union, professional body or similar organisation would be valuable. A policing background is not essential, but a willingness to understand the policing environment and members' needs is important.
