We are seeking a technically strong Financial Controller to join a purpose-led business and become a trusted point of reference for accounting and financial reporting.

Reporting to the Finance Director and CFO, this is a hands-on opportunity for someone who enjoys getting into the detail, resolving complex accounting questions and ensuring the numbers stand up to scrutiny.

You will combine sound technical judgement with practical delivery, providing confidence in financial reporting and helping the finance function operate more effectively.

Experience with M&A and divestments will be particularly valuable, bringing an understanding of the accounting, reporting and financial control considerations associated with transactions and changes in group structure.

The role

  • Take hands-on ownership of month-end close and financial reporting, ensuring accurate results, well-supported balance sheet reconciliations and clear explanations of key movements.
  • Be the technical accounting go-to for the Finance Director, CFO and wider finance team, researching complex matters, documenting accounting positions and providing practical guidance.
  • Support M&A and divestment activity, assessing accounting and reporting implications and contributing to transaction accounting, acquisition integration and disposal accounting.
  • Coordinate statutory financial reporting and external audit requirements, preparing supporting schedules and resolving technical queries with auditors and advisers.
  • Strengthen financial controls and governance, identifying gaps, addressing underlying issues and ensuring accounting policies are applied consistently.
  • Improve finance processes and reporting quality, working closely with the Finance Director and CFO to prioritise changes and deliver practical improvements.

About you

You are a CA or CPA qualified finance professional with strong financial control experience and a thorough understanding of accounting standards.

An audit or professional services background, complemented by hands-on commercial experience, would be highly regarded.

You bring experience supporting M&A activity and exposure to divestments, with the ability to assess their implications for financial reporting.

This may include transaction accounting, acquisition integration, disposal accounting or working with advisers and auditors on technical treatments.

You are comfortable moving between complex technical matters and the day-to-day work needed to deliver reliable results.

You question inconsistencies, investigate underlying issues and take ownership through to resolution.

Just as importantly, you communicate clearly.

You can explain an accounting position, recommend a practical approach and work constructively with senior leadership and the wider business.

Build something longer term

Initially offered as a six-month contract, this role has the potential to become permanent.

It is an opportunity to demonstrate your value, build strong relationships with the Finance Director and CFO and contribute to the longer-term development of the finance function.
