About the role:
As an Education Support Officer in Childhood Education and Care, you’ll play an important role in supporting the delivery of the Aboriginal Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) Workforce Supported Pathways Program, a NSW Government initiative designed to grow a skilled and sustainable Aboriginal early childhood education and care workforce. The program supports Aboriginal participants to complete the CHC30125 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care over 12 months, providing wrap-around support to help remove barriers to participation and successful completion. Alongside their studies, participants will have access to language, literacy, numeracy and digital skills support, cultural connection, mentoring and peer support, as well as targeted workshops focused on areas such as trauma-informed practice, Aboriginal perspectives in ECEC, career readiness, leadership and professional growth.
In this role, you’ll work closely with Teachers to provide practical, culturally responsive support to students, helping them build confidence, develop new skills and stay engaged in their learning. You’ll support learners one-on-one and in small groups across face to face and online environments, providing guidance, encouragement and follow-up instruction. You may also travel locally to support students while they’re on placement. By supporting participants throughout their learning journey, you’ll contribute to the program’s broader goal of increasing the number of Aboriginal educators working in early childhood services and strengthening culturally responsive learning environments for Aboriginal children, families and communities.
Note: This role does not teach or prepare lessons or resources and does not deliver training nor undertake assessment.
About You:
You enjoy helping others succeed and can explain ideas in a clear, friendly, and practical way. You thrive in an adult learning environment and feel confident motivating students from all backgrounds as they work through their Childhood Education and Care studies. Building strong relationships comes naturally to you, and you take pride in contributing to a team that puts learners first. You’re also comfortable with technology, using tools like Microsoft Word, Excel, MS Teams or Zoom to support students both on campus and online. You communicate well, show initiative, and bring a calm, organised approach to your work—making you a valued part of the teaching team.
To succeed in this role, you will have:
- Appropriate subject knowledge, skills and hold a Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care or above and a minimum of three (3) years’ experience as an educator in a regulated Early Childhood Service.
- Ability to understand the content of the learning materials and the processes used in the discipline.
- High-level interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to be proactive and show initiative and ability to explain ideas in a clear and concise manner.
- Commitment and ability to support learning in an adult environment both face to face and online and a demonstrated ability to motivate and encourage students.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with people from a diverse range of backgrounds and to provide quality customer service as part of a broader team.
- Skills in the use of relevant information and communication technologies.
Highly Regarded:
- Experience working with Aboriginal students or Aboriginal communities.
