At TAFE NSW, we are dedicated to life-changing impact! That’s why we offer world-class training and education that delivers the skills needed for the jobs of today and tomorrow. Life-changing impact starts with an incredible team that sees their career as an opportunity to transform someone’s world. Whether that’s inspiring students, supporting each other, or helping our communities and industries flourish. We live by TAFE NSW values: Customer First, Integrity, Collaboration, and Excellence.

About the role:

We’re seeking world-class educators to inspire the next generation of Travel and Tourism students by joining our team of teachers on a permanent part-time (0.5 FTE – 17.5 hours per week) with base location negotiable across NSW (subject to campus availability). This role requires regular travel across NSW to support delivery needs. Applicants must be willing and able to undertake travel and work across multiple locations.

In this role, you will deliver engaging training and facilitate learning within the Certificate III in Guiding program, enabling students to build rewarding careers in the tourism industry. Drawing on your industry expertise, you will help students develop the skills and confidence to lead tour groups, present engaging commentaries and activities, provide exceptional customer service and share local, historical and regional knowledge. Through a blend of practical and theoretical learning, you'll prepare students to create safe, memorable and meaningful visitor experiences while effectively engaging with diverse audiences.

An important aspect of this role is delivering SITTGDE019 - Research and share information on Australian Indigenous cultures. We are seeking an educator with strong cultural capability who can guide students in developing an understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, perspectives and protocols, while creating a culturally safe and inclusive learning environment that promotes respect, authenticity and meaningful engagement.

At TAFE NSW, you will discover a diverse, dynamic, and collaborative environment, where you can innovate, create value, and do meaningful work. We provide you with tools and ongoing training and professional development, health and wellbeing programs, and a variety of flexible working options.

Essential Requirements:

  • Have appropriate subject knowledge, skills and vocational qualifications with a minimum level of Certificate III in Guiding or equivalent.
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly across NSW to support educational delivery and operational requirements.
  • Evidence of holding the appropriate teaching qualifications to deliver Vocational Education and Training OR a willingness to undertake our full-time 14 week 'Paid to Learn' course.
  • Have a minimum of three (3) years post qualification experience relevant to your industry, gained no longer than five (5) years previously.

Highly regarded but not essential:

  • Certificate IV in Travel and Tourism.

This is a targeted recruitment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders in accordance with Rule 26 of the Government Sector Employment (General) Rules 2014 - Employment of eligible persons. As such, preference will be given to candidates who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. If no suitable candidate is found, other applications may also be considered. Aboriginal candidates selected for an interview will be required to provide “Confirmation of Aboriginality” documentation at or before interview.

Paid to Learn: for candidates who do not hold an appropriate VET teaching qualification or equivalent, you have the option to be paid to learn as you transition from industry to teaching with guaranteed work following successful completion of the 14 weeks Training and Assessment course. Those who already hold the appropriate teaching qualification or equivalent are still eligible to apply. Applicants for part-time positions should note that participation in the 14‑week PTL program requires full-time attendance of 35 hours per week throughout the 14-week program.

Our commitment to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employment: With over 420 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff and a strong Aboriginal Staff Network, we are committed to creating a culturally safe workplace where dignity, trust, respect, and the promotion of diversity and inclusion are valued. At TAFE NSW, you will have a sense of belonging and the opportunity to share your skills, stories, and passions and represent your communities and culture.

This is a child-related position. A Working with Children Check is a prerequisite for anyone in child-related work. It involves a national criminal history check and review of findings of workplace misconduct. To be eligible for positions at TAFE NSW, you need to be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident of Australia or a New Zealand citizen with a current New Zealand passport.
