About Us

The Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney (the Archdiocese) is made up of more than 125 Parishes, ecclesial movements, lay communities and ethnic chaplaincies. As well as nurturing the spiritual lives of the hundreds of thousands of Catholics, the Archdiocese supports thousands more in the local community through health and aged care, education, welfare and community services.

As an organisation, we are guided by our Mission, Vision & Values and are committed to supportive, respectful and ethical behaviour, with a dedication to justice, fairness and outreach to those in need.

Why work for the Archdiocese?

As well as serving the Sydney community, the Archdiocese is committed to providing its employees with a healthy blend of work, family and personal life. We seek to provide flexible and accommodating work options that support our people in balancing their professional and personal commitments. To enhance this commitment, we also provide a range of additional paid and unpaid leave options, professional development and study support, and extra paid time off between Christmas and New Year’s.

About the role

The Youth Officer, Sydney Catholic Youth (SCY) plays a vital role in helping young people encounter Christ and grow in their faith within the Archdiocese of Sydney. Reporting to the Team Leader of Sydney Catholic Youth, you will work closely with colleagues in the Sydney Centre for Evangelisation, to support the implementation of the Archdiocese’s vision for youth and young adult evangelisation by coordinating programs, events, and initiatives that inspire and equip the next generation of Catholic leaders.

You will plan and deliver engaging retreats, workshops and faith formation opportunities across schools, parishes and deaneries. Beyond coordinating events, you will help strengthen local youth ministry by mentoring emerging leaders, supporting parishes to develop their youth initiatives, and encouraging young people to become more actively involved in the life of the Church. Through both personal engagement and digital platforms, you will help foster meaningful connections and opportunities for young people to grow in faith.

About You

You are a passionate and faith-filled person who feels called to accompany young people on their journey of discipleship. With a strong understanding of Church teaching and the ability to communicate it in an engaging and relatable way, you are confident presenting to groups and facilitating programs that bring faith to life.

You bring practical experience in youth ministry, faith formation or a related pastoral setting, together with the confidence to lead formation sessions, facilitate workshops and coordinate events that engage and inspire young people. You understand the opportunities and challenges facing young Catholics today and can communicate the teachings of the Church in a way that is authentic, accessible and relevant.

You are creative, organised and proactive, with the ability to build meaningful relationships with young people, clergy, parish communities and other stakeholders. You work well independently and collaboratively, balancing the practical demands of event delivery with the relational and pastoral responsibilities of youth ministry.

Your faith, professionalism, and commitment to the mission of the Church underpin everything you do. You hold (or are willing to obtain) a valid Working With Children Check and a valid driver’s licence. You are also ready to travel or work outside standard hours when required to support youth events and initiatives.

Tertiary qualifications in Education, Theology, Liberal Arts or a related discipline, together with experience in teaching, religious education or youth ministry leadership, will be highly regarded.
