Horticulturist / Gardener – Casual, 2–3 days, Eastern Suburbs & North Shore
We're a small, planting-led landscape studio with more gardens than plant people. We'd like one more.
SurrealScapes (and our sister brand Succulent Designs Sydney) designs, plants and looks after gardens across Sydney, mostly in the Eastern Suburbs and North Shore, from our base in Alexandria. The work is maintenance rounds and planting installs, with a focus on endemic species, healthy soil and keeping old materials on site. You'd work alongside our two directors, both horticulturists, and report to Alexa on site.
We are also looking to hire a designer, so if you have any experience with design thats a bonus!
The role
- 2–3 days a week to start, offered as work is booked, with more as it grows, potential for full-time for right candidate
- Pruning, weeding, planting, mulching and soil improvement
- Pest and disease monitoring, and dealing with what you find
- Installing, checking and repairing irrigation
- Install days: bed preparation through to the last plant in the ground
- Leaving every site tidier than you found it
About you
- Hands-on garden maintenance or landscaping experience, ideally in Sydney
- Cert III in Horticulture / Parks and Gardens or equivalent, or working towards it
- Can identify common Sydney natives and know how they like to grow
- Some irrigation know-how
- Current driver's licence
- Safe with hand and power tools, and happy outdoors through a Sydney summer
- Reliable, and able to follow a planting plan
- AQF3 chemical accreditation (ChemCert or similar) is a plus, not a must
What we offer
- $40–44/hr + super, depending on experience, paid above award
- Gardens worth caring about: designed properly, planted for the long term
- Good tools, kept in good order
- Flexible days that can fit around study
- Plenty to learn, if you like getting nerdy about plants
