We're hiring a casual horticulturist in Sydney.
We are, we should confess, plant people. Lately there have been more gardens than plant people to go round, so we're looking for one more.
SurrealScapes designs, builds and looks after gardens across Sydney, mostly planting-led:
endemic species, healthy soil, and old sandstone reused rather than sent off in a skip. You'd work alongside horticulturists Alexa and Lucas on maintenance visits and planting installs, in private gardens and shared landscapes.
What the days look like
- Pruning, weeding, planting, mulching and soil improvement
- Watching for pests and disease, and doing something sensible about them
- Installing, checking and fixing irrigation
- Helping on planting installs, from bed preparation to the last plant in the ground
- Leaving every site tidier than we found it
Who we'd like to meet
- You can tell a Lomandra from a Dianella without the label (or you're well on the way)
- Hands-on garden maintenance or landscaping experience, ideally in Sydney
- Some irrigation know-how
- Safe and confident with hand and power tools, and fine working outdoors through a Sydney summer
- Reliable, and good at following a planting plan
- A Cert III in Horticulture or similar is preferred. Currently studying counts too.
The details
- Casual, 1-2 days a week to start, flexible around study
- Premium Residential and Commercial gardens across eastern suburbs, inner west, north shore
- Driver's licence / own transport to sites preferred
If you get a little too excited about the layer between the trees and the ground, we'd like to hear from you.
