Help young people meet Jesus, grow as his disciples, and find their place in the life and mission of the church.

St Andrew’s is a multi-congregational Anglican church in Roseville, on Sydney’s North Shore. We are seeking a full-time Youth and Young Adults Minister to lead and develop ministry among high school students, tertiary students and young adults in the early years of work. You will help young people belong to God’s family, mature in faith and share the gospel, as part of our vision of growing disciples of Jesus Christ through Belonging, Maturity and Outreach.

A vital ministry at an exciting moment

St Andrew’s is entering an exciting new season. As we prepare to move into our renewed hall, our ministries are growing: new people are joining us each week, we have strong connections with local schools, young people are coming to faith and young-adult ministry is gaining momentum.

Our Friday evening youth ministry is healthy, with 18 volunteer leaders serving around 60 young people. We want to build on this foundation and invest in the next generation of disciples.

The move from high school youth ministry into adult church life is a significant point in a person’s faith journey, and yet many young people find it difficult to remain connected to church as they move beyond youth ministry. This role brings youth and young-adult ministry together so discipleship can continue across this transition. You will help make it a pathway of growing belonging and responsibility by connecting young adults with the 6:45pm congregation, Bible study, service and leadership. You will deepen pastoral care, equip leaders and help young people flourish in Christian maturity, while strengthening partnership with parents, volunteer leaders and the wider church family.

The role

Reporting to the Assistant Minister (Kids & Youth), you will work closely with the Senior Minister, the 6:45pm Congregational Pastor and the wider ministry team. You will lead the youth and young-adult portfolio and collaborate with the 6:45pm congregation, alongside its pastor.

You will

  • Lead and develop St Andrew’s youth ministry, including Friday gatherings, Sunday Bible studies and other discipleship activities.
  • Lead and develop young-adult ministry, creating opportunities for fellowship, Bible teaching, discipleship, mission and service.
  • Help young people move from youth ministry into the life of the 6:45pm congregation and wider church.
  • Teach the Bible faithfully and appropriately, and build genuine pastoral relationships with young people and their families.
  • Recruit, train, encourage and support volunteer leaders; develop emerging leaders and a culture of shared ministry.
  • Plan and oversee camps, including a five-day summer camp and weekend spring camp, conferences, events and welcoming pathways for young people who are new to church.
  • Partner with parents in discipling their teenagers and maintain continuity with children’s and adult ministries.
  • Oversee ministry budgets, communication, records and safe-ministry and risk-management requirements.
  • Contribute to the staff team, broader church ministries, regular planning, supervision and professional development.

About you

You are a mature Christian with a gospel-shaped life, sound character and a strong commitment to Reformed evangelical convictions. You care deeply about helping young people know Jesus and grow in him, and you can combine theological clarity with warmth, patience and good pastoral judgement.

You will bring

  • A theological qualification at Diploma level or above, and alignment with the theological convictions of St Andrew’s.
  • At least one to two years’ demonstrated experience in youth and/or young-adult ministry.
  • Ability to teach and apply the Bible clearly for young people and adults.
  • Experience or aptitude in leading teams, equipping volunteers and developing emerging leaders.
  • Strong relational, organisational and communication skills, with the ability to plan collaboratively and follow through.
  • Capacity to handle pastoral complexity with clarity, compassion and appropriate referral.
  • Self-awareness, teachability and openness to feedback, supervision and ongoing growth.
  • Relevant Safe Ministry clearances and a commitment to comply with church policies and child-safety requirements.

Start date: January 2027.

Remuneration: In line with Sydney Anglican Diocese recommended guidelines, including a housing allowance, four weeks’ annual leave and sick/carer’s leave in accordance with Diocesan guidelines.

Reporting to: Assistant Minister (Kids & Youth).

We acknowledge and pay our respects to their elders, past, present and emerging,
