Civil Labourers ideally with truck license

Civil Labourer - Local Council | $36.78/hr | 9-Day Fortnight | Foot in the Door Opportunity!

Location: Byron Bay Depot - Northern Rivers locals encouraged to apply
Pay Rate: $36.78 per hour
Start: ASAP
Roster: up to 38 hours a week- with a 9-day fortnights - every second Friday off!

Want to build your civil experience and get your foot in the door with Local Council? This could be your opportunity!

We're looking for reliable, hands-on Civil Labourers with some civil construction experience and ideally holding an MR/HR Truck licence - who are keen to learn, get stuck in and become part of a hardworking Council crew.

(Please note: Working Holiday Visa holders are not eligible to apply for this role)

This is more than just another labouring assignment. It's a chance to gain valuable experience working on local civil projects, prove yourself in a Council environment and potentially open the door to ongoing work or even a permanent position down the track.

Council assignments can sometimes start with just a day or two of work, then quickly grow into weeks, months and, for the right person, potentially something long-term. There are no guarantees, but if you have a strong work ethic, show up when you say you will, work well with the team and bring a positive attitude, you'll give yourself the best chance of making a lasting impression.

What's in it for you?

  • $36.78 per hour with regular, full-time hours potentially available
  • A 9-day fortnight - enjoy every second Friday off!
  • A chance to build on your existing civil construction experience
  • Get your foot in the door with Local Council and gain valuable industry experience
  • Potential for assignments to grow into ongoing work and possible permanent opportunities for the right candidate
  • Work on projects that make a real difference to the local community
  • Join a supportive, hardworking crew where reliability and a good attitude matter

What will you be doing?

You'll be working alongside Council's Civil Works team on a variety of road, drainage and infrastructure projects across the region.

Duties may include:

  • General civil labouring, including digging, shovelling, concreting and site clean-up
  • Assisting with road construction, repairs, drainage and maintenance works
  • Using hand and power tools and helping with day-to-day site tasks
  • Supporting machinery operators and skilled tradespeople
  • Traffic control duties, if appropriately ticketed
  • Jumping in wherever needed to help the crew get the job done safely and efficiently

Important: This is a hands-on labouring role. A truck licence is a BIG advantage, but you must also be happy to roll up your sleeves, pick up a shovel and get stuck into the physical work.

What are we looking for?

We want someone who is keen to work, willing to learn and takes pride in doing a good job.

You'll ideally have:

  • At least some previous experience in civil construction, civil labouring, roadworks, drainage or a similar construction environment
  • A strong work ethic and a genuine can-do attitude
  • Reliability and punctuality - turning up consistently and being ready to work is essential
  • The ability to work well in a team, get along with others and fit into an established crew
  • A willingness to take direction, learn new skills and have a go at different tasks
  • The physical fitness to work outdoors and handle manual labour in varying conditions
  • A current MR or HR truck licence - highly regarded and a major advantage
  • A White Card and a current driver's licence, with reliable transport
  • Previous civil or construction labouring experience
  • Current White Card
  • Driver's licence and reliable transport
  • Full working rights in Australia - Working Holiday Visa holders are not eligible
  • Ability to successfully complete pre-employment checks, including reference checks, drug and alcohol screening and a physical assessment

Ready to get your foot in the door?

If you have some civil experience, a good attitude and the drive to prove yourself, we want to hear from you!

We're keen to speak with people who want to build their skills, become a valued member of the crew and make the most of an opportunity with Local Council.
