The Role

Help shape the future of radiotherapy. Join St George Hospital's medical physics research team to develop and evaluate same-day simulation-to-treatment workflows through collaborative research with industry partners, bringing technical innovation closer to patient care. You'll be based at St George Hospital Cancer Care Centre in Sydney, within a collaborative radiation oncology service with an expanding medical physics research program.

You'll work alongside medical physicists, radiation oncologists and radiation therapists, with opportunities to engage with university collaborators and industry partners. The role combines access to contemporary radiotherapy technology with the support of experienced clinical researchers, providing an opportunity to develop your research career and contribute to projects addressing practical challenges in cancer care.

The Hospital Scientist (Medical Physics) will contribute to a collaborative research program investigating same-day simulation-to-treatment pathways in radiotherapy. These projects aim to streamline imaging, treatment planning and treatment delivery, reducing delays and the burden of multiple hospital visits for patients.

Working under the supervision of Senior Medical Physics staff, you will contribute to the design, development and evaluation of new workflows and computational tools. Activities will include clinical data processing and analysis, software development, experimental measurements and technical validation, with a focus on assessing the accuracy, safety and feasibility of proposed approaches.

You will work closely with the multidisciplinary radiation oncology team to investigate how these approaches can be integrated into clinical practice. The role will include evaluating workflow efficiency, interpreting research findings and contributing to scientific publications, conference presentations and reports for research partners.

This position offers an opportunity to build your research experience at the interface of medical physics, software development and clinical radiotherapy, contributing to innovations intended to improve the patient experience.
