Retail Manager in Adelaide

Retail Manager in Adelaide

Adelaide Full-Time On-site
S

For over 70 years, Skala Bakery has been baking fresh daily for South Australians. Established in 1952, we've grown from a single local baker into an award-winning artisan brand with 7 retail locations across Adelaide and a bustling production hub in Port Adelaide. We pride ourselves on honouring time-tested ancestral techniques, like manual dough preparation and long, controlled fermentation, while pushing the boundaries of modern flavour. At Skala, we don't just bake, we carry on a proud South Australian tradition.

About the role

We're looking for an energetic, hands‑on Multi‑Site Retail Manager to join our team. You'll work closely with and support both the Retail General Manager and the General Manager across the business, helping make sure all 7 Skala stores are on track with budgets, clean, well maintained and beautifully presented, and that our Store Managers, 2ICs and teams are supported and accountable for the daily running of their stores.

No two days are the same. One day you're reviewing rosters and budgets, the next you're helping open a new store, covering a shift, training a new starter or fixing a wobbly shelf. If you love variety, thrive under pressure and know how to make magic happen, we want to hear from you.

What you'll be doing

Supporting the Retail General Manager and General Manager across the business

Holding Store Managers, 2ICs and staff accountable for daily operations, standards and presentation

Coaching and developing Store Managers and 2ICs, and addressing performance issues fairly and promptly

Making sure stores are clean, well maintained and presented to a high standard

Ensuring a consistently great customer experience across every store

Monitoring store sales and performance, and help drive results

Building and managing rosters while keeping a close eye on budgets, wages and costs

Overseeing stock control, ordering and waste

Making sure stores meet food safety, hygiene, allergen and workplace health and safety standards

Ensuring compliance with company policies, procedures and all relevant legislation across every store

Writing, updating and rolling out SOPs and operations manuals

Recruiting, hiring and helping train staff

Assisting with new store openings

Stepping into stores to cover leave, or managing a store when required, including during management absences

Handling small in‑house maintenance and handyman jobs

Making sure store appliances and equipment are running correctly, and arranging service and repairs when needed

Logging service and warranty calls, following up with suppliers and technicians, and seeing every job through to completion

Being available on call over weekends to handle operational issues and sick leave calls

Keeping clear, accurate notes and juggling multiple priorities at once

What you'll bring

Previous management experience, ideally in the food and hospitality industry

Rostering and budget management experience

Food safety training or solid food safety knowledge (Food Safety Supervisor certificate highly regarded)

IT savvy, with confidence using point-of-sale systems, Excel, EFTPOS terminals and other everyday tech

Experience opening new stores or running a store, or a strong willingness to learn

Recruitment and staff training skills

Strong knowledge of compliance requirements in a food retail environment or business compliance

Experience writing SOPs (standard operating procedures) and training manuals

A practical, handy nature for small in-store fixes

A current driver's licence and reliable vehicle to travel between stores

Full working rights in Australia
