Some of the best salespeople in industrial automation started out as engineers.

They understand how the technology works, and they enjoy talking to the people who use it.

If that sounds like you, this role is a structured way to move from engineering into a inside sales career with a global market leader.

About Us

At SICK Sensor Intelligence, we are pioneers in Industrial Automation Sensors and Solutions, employing over 12,000 people globally.

Our track record of industry firsts includes innovations like the first safety light curtain and the first colour sensor, revolutionising industrial automation.

As a market leader, we are committed to attracting top talent to drive continued success.

About the Role

As an Inside Sales Specialist, you’ll be the first point of contact for customers across Australia.

You’ll help them choose the right products and turn technical problems into solutions.

The role is office-based with no travel, so you can build your product knowledge and sales skills while supported by an experienced team.

You’ll report to our Inside Sales Manager and work closely with our External Sales and Technical teams.

This role is based at our Heidelberg West Office and reports to the Inside Sales Manager.

  • What you’ll do
  • Make outbound calls, run targeted campaigns and follow up on quotes to win new business
  • Manage your own customer pool using structured call cycles
  • Help customers select the right sensor or solution for their application (which is where your engineering background pays off)
  • Work with External Sales to find opportunities and grow key accounts
  • Support the sales team with quoting, product selection and account setup
  • Record customer interactions in our CRM
  • Your first two years
  • This role is a development pathway, so over your first 18-24 months, you’ll:
  • Get in-depth product training across our sensor, safety and automation portfolio
  • Learn consultative, solution-based selling from experienced sales professionals
  • Build your own customer relationships and take on increasing responsibility for revenue
  • Gain the commercial and technical skills that lead to future field sales and solutions roles

We’re looking for someone who wants to commit to that journey and grow with us.

About You

  • A degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering (or a relevant trade qualification)
  • Genuine interest in a commercial, customer-interacting career
  • Confidence on the phone and enjoyment in talking with people
  • Curiosity about how things work and a willingness to learn our technology
  • A proactive, organised approach and comfort with targets
  • No sales experience? That’s fine. Internships, part-time customer-facing work or university project experience all count.

What Can We Offer You?

  • Join a global team with a supportive and inclusive company culture.
  • Professional development opportunities and potential for career growth.
  • Regular events organised by our social committee.
  • Celebrate your special day with Birthday Leave.
  • Access to our Reward and Recognition program, celebrating achievements big and small.
  • Study and education assistance to further your learning and development.
  • Access to our Employee Assistance Program, offering six free, strictly confidential counselling sessions for your well-being.
  • Our Commitment to You

We believe in creating a diverse and inclusive work environment where all employees are valued, respected, and have a work-life balance.

Our commitment to a positive company culture drives our success and we strive to build a team that represents a wide range of backgrounds and so we encourage applicants from all backgrounds to apply.
