Sibanye Stillwater Australia is seeking a Senior Process Technician to join our Karumba Port Operations in Karumba, Queensland.
Bring your water treatment and process improvement experience to a role supporting safe, reliable and efficient port operations. You will work closely with Operations and Maintenance to improve processing, water treatment, materials handling and reclaiming systems.
Based at Karumba Port Operations, the role offers a 16/12 roster or a 5/2 residential roster, or a variation of these arrangements.
About the role
Reporting to the Superintendent Operations Support, you will provide technical support to help optimise concentrate dewatering, pressing, drying and water treatment processes. Your focus will be on monitoring plant performance, troubleshooting process issues and delivering practical improvements that support safety, environmental standards, cost and production targets.
Key responsibilities include:
- Monitor processing and water treatment performance and provide technical support to Operations and Maintenance.
- Support the effective operation of the water treatment plant to meet process, business and environmental standards.
- Monitor process control loops, equipment performance and reagent usage, and help the team address performance outside specifications.
- Develop and monitor sample collection, sample preparation and test work for production activities.
- Investigate process bottlenecks and work with operational teams to identify practical solutions.
- Liaise with reagent suppliers and technical specialists to improve process outcomes and treatment costs.
- Scope and deliver process improvement projects within operational requirements, budgets and timeframes.
- Maintain routine monitoring and reporting, follow site safety and environmental procedures, and report incidents.
About you
You will bring a practical approach to troubleshooting, sound technical knowledge and a commitment to safe operations. You will be comfortable working with operational and maintenance teams, laboratory personnel and suppliers, and able to turn process data and test results into clear, useful recommendations. Strong communication, organisation and the ability to manage competing priorities will help you succeed.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- At least two years’ experience in metallurgical, chemical, engineering or laboratory roles in base metals or water treatment.
- Experience monitoring and operating activated sludge water treatment processes.
- Sound knowledge of water treatment chemistry, process control systems and industrial process troubleshooting.
- Experience with analytical laboratory processes, test work design and management.
- Practical process improvement and project management skills, including planning and prioritising work.
- Competency in Microsoft Office and clear communication and reporting skills.
- An understanding of safety and environmental requirements and a commitment to following site standards.
- A tertiary or technical qualification in Metallurgy, Engineering or Science, or relevant equivalent experience, will be highly regarded. Previous FIFO experience is desirable.
If you enjoy solving process challenges and working with operational teams to improve plant performance, we would like to hear from you.
