Sibanye-Stillwater Australia (SSWA) is part of the global mining and metals group Sibanye-Stillwater Limited. Our Australian business includes Century Operations and Karumba Port in Queensland, and the Mt Lyell copper project in Tasmania, where the restart has recently been approved.
This role will lead procurement across our Australian operations and help deliver the Mt Lyell restart. This remote, work‐from‐home role combines regional influence with hands‐on sourcing and contract delivery – taking ownership of Century procurement, shared sourcing across both operations and major commercial negotiations.
Reporting to the Vice President Legal & Sustainability, you'll work directly with Australian leadership and site teams, with scope to shape procurement practices and deliver measurable commercial value. You'll also provide functional guidance to a dedicated Mt Lyell procurement role and liaise with relevant Group procurement stakeholders as required.
This is a remote, work‐from‐home role. Some site travel to our operations in North West Queensland and Tasmania may be required.
Key Accountabilities
- Develop procurement strategies for Century, shared Australian requirements and material contracts above the agreed threshold, aligned with budgets, schedules and operational priorities.
- Lead complex tenders, evaluations and negotiations through to award, working with legal, site and technical teams to secure clear, commercially sound contracts.
- Consolidate demand across Century and Mt Lyell to capture synergies, economies of scale, savings and value through shared sourcing, practical standardisation and supplier arrangements.
- Maintain practical procurement controls, contract registers and auditable records, embedding safety, responsible sourcing and sustainability requirements, including modern slavery risk management and reporting.
- Build key supplier relationships, lead due diligence and monitor performance to manage supply chain, quality and delivery risks.
- Create and own the Procurement Register detailing all current contracts including tenure, financial commitments, insurance governance and working with site senior leadership to allocate site‐based co‐owners for all HSEC site considerations.
- Integrate procurement with project schedules, forecasts and cost reporting, identify long‐lead items and provide clear advice and recovery options when cost or delivery is at risk.
- Guide a dedicated Mt Lyell procurement role, provide quality assurance and build consistent procurement practices across the Australian business.
Qualifications and Experience
- Tertiary qualification in procurement, supply chain, commerce, business, law, engineering or a related discipline. CIPS, MCIPS or equivalent is highly regarded; contract or project management qualifications are advantageous.
- Significant procurement, contracts or commercial experience in mining, major projects, construction, infrastructure or a similarly complex environment.
- A track record of leading complex sourcing, tender evaluations and negotiations, with hands‐on delivery of multiple procurement packages.
- Strong commercial judgement and analytical skills, sound procurement governance knowledge and experience linking sourcing strategies with cost, schedule and risk.
- Ability to work autonomously, advise senior stakeholders and build effective site, supplier and procurement relationships. Australian mining, project delivery and dispersed supply chain experience are advantageous.
- Ability to meet the role's medical fitness, security and background screening requirements.
- Ability to undertake site travel to North West Queensland and Tasmania as required, occasionally at short notice.
- Ability to work in Australia without restrictions.
