About Safe Harbour by the Sea:
Safe Harbour by the Sea is delivered by SEARMS Community Housing Aboriginal Corporation, an Aboriginal community-controlled organisation supporting Aboriginal communities across the NSW South Coast since 2003. Our approach recognises that safety extends beyond accommodation. We work alongside women and children to support their immediate safety, wellbeing, cultural connections and longer-term pathways towards stable, sustainable housing.
About the role:
The DFV Caseworker provides specialist, strengths-based case management and practical support to women and children experiencing domestic and family violence. Key responsibilities include:
- Deliver culturally safe, trauma-informed and victim-survivor-led case management, including crisis intervention and ongoing support.
- Undertake comprehensive DFV risk assessments, safety planning and client-led case planning.
- Recognise and respond to children as victim-survivors and clients in their own right.
- Support women and children to access safe accommodation, sustainable housing, legal assistance, financial support, healthcare, counselling and other specialist services.
- Work respectfully with Aboriginal women and families, recognising cultural identity, community connections, healing and self-determination.
- Collaborate with NSW Police, specialist DFV services, homelessness services, child protection, housing providers and community organisations.
- Maintain accurate, confidential case records and comply with safeguarding and lawful information-sharing requirements.
- Participate in outreach, coordinated crisis responses and an after-hours on-call roster.
About you:
- A qualification in social work, community services or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant professional experience.
- Demonstrated experience providing trauma-informed case management in domestic and family violence, homelessness or community services.
- Sound understanding of domestic and family violence, coercive control, gender-based violence and the importance of victim-survivor safety and choice.
- Demonstrated commitment to culturally safe practice, Aboriginal self-determination, inclusion and respectful engagement with diverse communities.
- Ability to undertake risk assessments, develop safety plans, respond to crisis situations and coordinate referrals.
- Strong communication, advocacy, relationship-building and organisational skills.
- Current NSW Driver Licence.
- Ability to meet applicable Working With Children Check, National Police Check and First Aid requirements.
Highly regarded:
- Experience in specialist DFV crisis accommodation or NSW Specialist Homelessness Services.
- Familiarity with NSW Safer Pathway, DVSAT, the Core and Cluster model and relevant SHS reporting systems.
- Experience supporting Aboriginal women, children and families in a culturally responsive service.
What we offer:
- Meaningful work within an Aboriginal community-controlled organisation.
- A collaborative and values-driven team.
- Salary packaging opportunities.
- Regular professional supervision, including access to external supervision.
