Head of People & Culture in Melbourne

Melbourne Full-Time On-site
S

$130,000 - $150,000 | Full Time | Wheelers Hill, Melbourne VIC

Lead our people function and build the HR systems behind it at one of Melbourne's largest specialist healthcare groups.

Scope Healthcare is a steadily growing healthcare group delivering cardiac, sleep and respiratory diagnostics, radiology and accredited healthcare education. Our team continues to expand year on year as our services grow.

We're now looking for a Head of People & Culture to lead our people function and help us plan for the workforce we'll need next. You'll work closely with our Directors, clinical leaders and practice managers to strengthen management across our clinics and support our people as the business grows.

This is a hands‑on role. Alongside planning and advising leaders, you'll personally manage recruitment, payroll, employee matters and our people systems, and shape how staff are recognised and developed. You'll need to be comfortable taking responsibility from the first conversation through to the final detail.

What You Will Do

  • Lead our people priorities. Work with the Directors to turn business plans into practical plans for our workforce

  • Strengthen management across our clinics. Support and coach our managers, and develop people who can step into future leadership roles

  • Keep patient care at the centre of how teams work. Work with practice managers and clinical leaders on the workforce issues that affect patient experience

  • Run recruitment end to end. Manage hiring from the first ad to a new starter's first day, and help more great people find us, including through our own team

  • Manage employee relations and Fair Work matters. Advise managers and see workplace issues through to a fair resolution

  • Oversee payroll. Work with Finance to make sure our people are paid accurately and on time

  • Lead learning and development. Plan training and development that helps people across our clinical and administrative teams grow in their roles

  • Help people feel valued. Act on employee feedback and strengthen how we recognise good work across Scope

  • Keep employment practices consistent and compliant. Keep contracts, policies and pay aligned with current awards and legislation

  • Look after Rippling. Keep our people data and processes in Rippling accurate and running smoothly, working with our technology team where needed

  • Maintain workforce checks and records. Keep staff checks and credentials current, and support workplace wellbeing and safety

Requirements

You've taken responsibility for a broad HR function and are comfortable doing the work yourself. You can give Directors clear advice, earn the trust of clinical teams and follow through across different locations.

We're looking for:

  • Experience leading a People & Culture function, ideally in a growing business with teams across multiple sites

  • Recent, hands‑on experience running recruitment

  • Experience overseeing payroll and applying awards to pay

  • Confidence handling employee relations matters directly

  • Experience planning training and development for staff and managers

  • Experience preparing contracts, policies and other HR documentation

  • Hands‑on Rippling experience - preferred

  • Practical skills with AI tools such as Claude or ChatGPT, and the judgement to use them responsibly with confidential employee information

  • Strong knowledge of Australian employment law and modern awards

  • Evidence of practical improvements you've made to people processes or retention

  • Sound judgement, discretion and the organisation to manage competing priorities without losing track of the details

Experience in healthcare, allied health or diagnostic services is highly regarded, as is Employment Hero experience.

Benefits

You’ll lead the people function across established clinical services and newer areas of the business. Working closely with the Directors, you’ll have the opportunity to shape how our teams are structured, how managers lead and how people develop their careers at Scope. You will have an opportunity to:

  • Be part of one of Melbourne's largest cardiology groups

  • Build and improve our workforce and HR systems

  • Work closely and directly with the Managing Director

  • Take on a leadership role with real impact across the organisation

  • Have potential exposure to interstate operations
