Cairns is the base for this Contracts Administrator vacancy with BESIX Watpac, which is adding to its North Queensland construction team. Most of the job is subcontract procurement and administration for a main contractor.
Each trade package is bought from the ground up: the administrator assembles the enquiry documents and a list of proposed bidders for sign-off, sends the enquiry out, collects the bids, sets them side by side and writes the recommendation. When the package is placed, the administrator drafts the subcontract.
From then on the post holder supports the Project Manager in running those subcontracts, which brings in assessment of progress claims and variation claims and the other money matters that arise on site. A share of the monthly project report falls to this role: forecast cash flow, where each variation stands, contractual issues and cost analysis.
The advert also asks the administrator to put in place a workable administration system on site or in the office that follows company procedure, and to uphold the safety policies required by OH&S law. Applicants should hold a quantity surveying or construction management degree, or have equivalent experience, and should already have done similar work for a building contractor.
Self-reliance, sound decisions and the capacity to deal with people at all levels of the business are listed as requirements.
