Rubix Solutions is working with a leading analytics consultancy to hire experienced Data Scientists for a large banking engagement in Sydney. The programme centres on customer risk and compliance analytics, and is planned to run over 12 to 18 months in two stages, with room for the team to grow. You will lead a small pod, working alongside a supporting Data Scientist, and help a banking client assess how well its customer onboarding and due diligence controls are working. Using data and modelling, you will find out which controls add value and which can be improved or retired. You will stay hands-on with the modelling while guiding others across local and offshore teams.

What you will do:

  • Work with business stakeholders to define problems and shape them into practical analytical work
  • Analyse customer, risk and operational data to test how existing controls are performing
  • Build, validate and improve predictive models that support customer risk assessment
  • Choose the right performance measures and explain results, limitations and impact in plain terms
  • Recommend which controls to keep, change or remove
  • Review analytical approaches and mentor other Data Scientists in your pod
  • Produce well-documented, reproducible work with colleagues onshore and offshore
  • Look for practical uses of AI agents where they fit the project

What you will bring:

  • Around 8 to 12 years in data science, predictive modelling or advanced analytics
  • Strong hands-on Python and/or R, with solid statistics and machine learning
  • A track record of taking unclear business problems through to models and clear recommendations
  • The ability to explain complex findings to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Experience guiding other practitioners while still delivering yourself
  • Comfort working on client sites and with distributed teams

Nice to have:

  • Banking, fraud, financial crime, KYC or customer risk analytics
  • Experience reviewing or improving rules-based decisions
  • Exposure to agentic AI or applied AI solutions

Working arrangements:

Based in Sydney, working from the consultancy’s CBD office or the client’s offices as the project requires.
