The Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania is looking for an experienced and commercially minded hospitality Operations Manager to take ownership of the end-to-end operational performance of our hospitality and events function.
Reporting directly to the General Manager, this is a senior leadership role with genuine breadth — spanning front of house, food and beverage, functions and events, team development and financial oversight. You’ll be the driving force behind our day-to-day operations and a key contributor to the Club’s continued growth.
With a competitive base salary of $90,000 – $100,000 + super, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in a performance-based incentive scheme — rewarding the commercial outcomes and service excellence this role is designed to drive.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Provide hands-on operational leadership across all areas of the venue — FOH, bar, bistro, and function spaces
- Lead, develop, and inspire a multidisciplinary hospitality team, building a culture of excellence and accountability
- Grow our functions and events business — actively converting enquiries into bookings, upselling packages, and building lasting relationships with members, corporates, and event organisers
- Oversee the full events pipeline from initial enquiry through to post-event follow-up
- Manage staff rostering across all service areas, balancing labour costs with service excellence
- Take ownership of operational budgets, monitor financial performance, and identify opportunities to improve
- Liaise with the Head Chef to ensure seamless FOH and BOH integration
- Champion an exceptional member experience at every touchpoint
- Ensure compliance with relevant awards, WHS obligations, and Tasmanian liquor licensing laws
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
- 5–7 years’ experience in a senior operational or venue management role, ideally within a premium club, hotel, or hospitality environment
- A proven track record leading and developing multidisciplinary teams
- Commercial acumen — you understand budgets, labour costs, and how to drive revenue
- A genuine flair for sales and business development, particularly in a functions and events context
- Strong knowledge of food and beverage operations and service standards
- Current RSA certification and solid knowledge of Tasmanian liquor licensing
- Proficiency with hospitality management and POS software
- Impeccable presentation and a member-first approach
