The Organisation

Proudly serving Australians since 1928, the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) provides emergency road, aeromedical and primary health services for people in rural and remote Australia. We believe in creating opportunities so all Victorians have the choice to access essential primary health care services.

Patient Transport offers Non-Emergency Patient Transport primarily in Victoria and New South Wales. We work with a large fleet of ambulances and support our transport services with RFDS aircraft. Patient Transport provides clinical care for people travelling from home to hospital, hospital to hospital and hospital to home, as well as transport to and from specialist clinics.

About the role

Flying Doctor Patient Transport is seeking motivated and caring Patient Transport Officers to join our Bendigo team. This full-time role offers flexibility, structured training, and the opportunity to work alongside experienced clinicians in a supportive environment - without the pressures of emergency response work.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Perform patient assessment and intervention during road transport
  • Deliver safe, compassionate care aligned with RFDS clinical guidelines and NEPT regulations
  • Monitor patients and evaluate responses to treatment en‐route
  • Work collaboratively with a partner clinician in a team‐based model

Qualifications and experience required:

  • A minimum qualification of Cert III in Non‐Emergency Patient care, Diploma of Nursing, or equivalent. Bachelor of Health Science (Paramedic) students may apply on completion of second year subject units
  • Experience working in the NEPT sector in an equal role desirable but not essential
  • Full Victorian Driver Licence
  • National Police Check, Working with Children Check and right to work in Australia
  • 2:1 staff to patient ratio
  • Generous penalties and allowances
  • A less stressful environment than emergency/pre-hospital care
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
  • Access to salary packaging options to reduce your taxable income for all employees, including our casuals

As part of the application process, you will be required to provide evidence of the following vaccinations:

  • Chicken Pox
  • Measles, Mumps and Rubella
  • Diphtheria, Tetanus and Pertussis

All applicants must undergo a driver history and demerit point check, at compliance stage. To be successful, you must not have repeated driving offences within the last three years. In addition, all positions are subject to a National Police Check and require holding a valid Employee Working with Children Check.

The Royal Flying Doctor Service, Victoria, is committed to creating a diverse environment and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We encourage applications from individuals of underrepresented backgrounds to apply, including but not limited to, those from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, culturally and linguistically diverse and LGBTQI communities.
