Take ownership of quality Employment & Industrial Law work, with specialist support and real commercial upside
Are you an experienced Employment Lawyer looking for more autonomy, stronger client ownership and an environment where there is genuine upside in what you build?
Roberts Crosbie Mortensen Lawyers is a growing specialist Business and Litigation firm with offices in Sydney and Newcastle. We work closely with growing SMEs, business owners and directors to solve complex legal problems, manage risk and support the decisions that help their businesses grow.
We are looking for an experienced Lawyer who wants to focus their practice on Employment & Industrial Law and take genuine carriage of clients and matters.
This role is likely to suit a lawyer with approximately 5+ years PAE who can operate confidently and autonomously. You may already be a Senior Associate, be approaching that level, or simply be an experienced lawyer looking for greater ownership and opportunity.
Autonomy backed by an Accredited Specialist
You will work closely with and report to an Accredited Specialist in Employment & Industrial Law with an established market reputation and a strong pipeline of repeat and referral work.
We are looking for someone with the capability and standards to take ownership of matters and run them fairly autonomously. You will have specialist technical support and supervision available when you need it, without being held back from managing your own clients and files.
You will work with him on existing employment matters while also developing your own client relationships, professional profile and practice.
If becoming an Accredited Specialist yourself interests you, we want to help you get there. We provide coaching, paid study leave and a financial reward for achieving Specialist Accreditation.
Grow your Employment practice in Sydney
Our Sydney lawyers are part of one firm, not a satellite office.
Our teams collaborate across Sydney and Newcastle, and our lawyers are free to work across offices where it supports collaboration, client outcomes or their own circumstances.
You will have the opportunity to help grow our Employment & Industrial Law presence in Sydney while drawing on an established team, client base, referral pipeline, systems and operational infrastructure.
For a lawyer who wants visibility, autonomy and scope to build something, without having to build it from scratch, this is an interesting opportunity.
Complex work with commercially engaged clients
Our clients are predominantly privately owned SMEs, business owners and directors who value practical, commercial and strategic advice.
We are selective about the work we take on so our lawyers can focus on complex, commercially meaningful matters where specialist legal expertise adds genuine value.
Your work may include:
- employment contracts, policies and restraints of trade
- performance management, disciplinary processes and workplace investigations
- terminations, redundancies and unfair dismissal
- general protections, adverse action and discrimination claims
- Fair Work Commission proceedings and other employment disputes
- awards, enterprise agreements and industrial relations compliance
- executive employment and senior employee exits
- employment issues arising from business sales, restructures, insolvency and commercial disputes.
The support to perform at your best
We have deliberately invested in the infrastructure around our lawyers.
You will have experienced legal assistants, strong systems and dedicated Operations, Workplace Experience, People & Culture and Sales & Marketing support.
Regular team huddles, 1:1s, matter reviews and solicitor/legal assistant catch-ups create strong communication and collaboration without taking away your autonomy.
We also have established practice resources including smart operating procedures, precedents, checklists and workflows to help you onboard quickly, work efficiently and delegate with confidence.
The result is more time for high-value legal work, clients, professional development and building your practice.
Be rewarded for what you build
High performance should have meaningful financial upside.
This role may be eligible for our individual fee earner commission. Once your agreed collections target is achieved, commission is paid monthly in addition to salary, with no cap on what you can earn.
With a consistent pipeline of repeat and referral work, there is genuine opportunity for high performers to benefit from the value they deliver.
It is not all about billing. When you take on leadership, mentoring, business development and other responsibilities, we have programs in place to recognise and reward those contributions.
What we offer
- competitive salary plus uncapped monthly commission for eligible lawyers
- a consistent pipeline of Employment & Industrial Law work
- direct access to an Accredited Specialist in Employment & Industrial Law
- genuine autonomy and ownership of clients and matters
