Working within a highly successful, down-to-earth agricultural business, you’ll take responsibility for the day-to-day delivery of HR operations while continuing to improve the systems, processes and disciplines that support the business. This isn’t a role for someone who wants to sit on the side-lines and provide HR theory. We’re looking for someone who is comfortable rolling up their sleeves, working through issues with managers and employees, and making sure things actually happen.

You’ll need to be strong on process, compliance and attention to detail, but equally strong with people. The environment is straightforward and relatively informal, so your ability to build trust, communicate clearly and deal with people in a genuine and practical way will be critical.

The role involves working closely with managers across the business and the leadership team, overseeing the delivery of core HR activities including:

  • Day-to-day HR operations and employee support
  • Employee relations and performance matters
  • Employment contracts, policies and documentation
  • HR systems, records and reporting
  • Recruitment, onboarding and offboarding
  • Remuneration and employment conditions
  • HR compliance and employment-related requirements
  • Improving HR processes and making them simpler and more consistent
  • Supporting managers to deal confidently with people matters
  • Ensuring HR initiatives are followed through and delivered

There will be plenty to manage, but also the opportunity to improve how things are done. You’ll need to be comfortable moving between the detail and the bigger picture, whether that means working through an employee issue, improving a process, checking documentation or helping a manager navigate a difficult conversation.

About you: We’re looking for someone who has solid HR experience but doesn’t need a highly structured corporate environment around them. You’ll ideally be:

  • Hands-on and delivery focused with a strong bias towards action
  • Organised, methodical and good at following things through
  • Strong on HR process, governance and compliance
  • Commercial and pragmatic in the way you approach HR
  • Approachable and capable of building relationships across all levels
  • A clear, straightforward communicator who doesn't hide behind HR jargon
  • Comfortable working with both managers and frontline employees
  • Confident dealing with sensitive or challenging people matters
  • Able to bring structure and discipline without making things unnecessarily bureaucratic
  • Comfortable working independently and using good judgement

Experience within agriculture, agribusiness, food production, manufacturing, transport, resources or another operationally focused industry would be well regarded. More important, though, is that you understand how to work with practical, busy people and can adapt your approach accordingly.

The opportunity: This role will suit someone who enjoys travel, being close to the business and close to the people. You won’t be expected to turn the organisation into a highly corporate HR environment. Instead, the focus is on making sure the fundamentals are right, managers are well supported, employees are treated fairly and consistently, and HR delivers what it says it will deliver.

If you’re an experienced HR professional who combines good process and compliance disciplines with common sense, energy and a genuine way with people, we’d like to hear from you.
