Associate Director - Financial Services Research & Insights in Sydney

Sydney Full-Time On-site

Some research roles are about delivering the work.
This one is about building a reputation around it.
We’re partnering with an established, independently owned insights consultancy with an enviable position in Australia’s financial services sector. They work with leading super funds, banks, private banks and wealth businesses, delivering research that gets read, discussed and acted on.
They’re looking for a smart, polished and ambitious Associate Director who combines strong quantitative research skills with confident consulting and presenting capability.
The role
You’ll lead a mix of syndicated and bespoke research, exploring areas such as investor and adviser sentiment, intergenerational wealth transfer, retirement, brand positioning, customer experience and market trends.
You’ll:

  • Lead complex quant projects end to end

  • Design surveys and analytical approaches

  • Work across segmentation, weighting, market sizing and analysis

  • Turn data into clear, strategic recommendations

  • Present confidently to senior and C-suite audiences

  • Write engaging reports and thought leadership

  • Build trusted senior client relationships

  • Spot commercial opportunities and support proposals

  • Coach and develop junior researchers

The bigger opportunity
This is more than a traditional AD role.
They want someone who can become increasingly public-facing – speaking at events, contributing to industry commentary, building a profile in market and helping shape what the business researches next.
There is genuine long‑term succession potential for someone who wants to step into broader leadership and, eventually, help lead the business.

About you
You’ll likely have around 6-8 years’ market research experience, ideally agency or consultancy side, plus:

  • A strong quantitative toolkit

  • Experience leading projects independently

  • Confidence presenting to senior stakeholders

  • Excellent written communication

  • Commercial curiosity and strong client skills

  • Some people management or mentoring experience

Financial services experience is useful but not essential. What matters more is curiosity and the appetite to build expertise across superannuation, wealth, investment and financial services.
Why join?
You’ll get the entrepreneurial feel of a smaller independent consultancy, backed by a strong reputation, international reach and established senior client relationships.
Expect genuine investment in your development, opportunities to build your own industry profile, global exposure and a clear pathway to take on more responsibility as the business grows.
