- About the business
Our client is a well-established civil and structural engineering consultancy with a strong reputation across the East Coast, built over two decades.
Their work spans residential, aged care, health, education and commercial projects, from suburban schools through to major developments worth hundreds of millions.
People stick around here.
The business is known for being collaborative rather than competitive, for backing curiosity over convention, and for trusting senior people to get on with it.
It has a culture that doesn't take itself too seriously, with regular social events, flexible/hybrid working, and a leadership team that's easy to talk with.
About the job
The civil team works alongside the buildings team and has grown to around 20 engineers, designers and drafters.
The business is now adding a second Civil Team Lead to share the leadership load.
This is a new role, not a replacement.
The team is experienced and capable, so this isn't a babysitting job.
The systems, processes and people are already in place.
What's needed is a second senior voice to help steer the team, support its people and keep projects on track.
Around 30% of your week goes to leadership: regular check-ins with the team, mentoring, removing roadblocks and making sure everyone's pulling the same way.
The rest is hands-on project work, delivering the civil side of major built form projects (site works, stormwater, earthworks, pavements, services and approvals) for building developments across the sectors above.
You won't be expected to win work.
You're welcome to get involved in business development if it interests you, but it isn't part of the brief.
You don't need a contact book.
You need to be a strong civil engineer who enjoys leading people.
Skills and experience
- Degree-qualified civil engineer with 8+ years' experience, ideally RPEQ (or eligible)
- Strong track record on the civil components of building projects, such as residential, aged care, health, education or commercial
- Experience leading or mentoring engineers and designers, and ready for a formal leadership role
- You enjoy people leadership, including coaching, developing others and having the harder conversations when needed
- Comfortable managing budgets and programs across a portfolio of projects
- Want to lead and deliver, not chase work
Benefits
- Competitive salary package
- Flexible/hybrid working arrangements
- An established, experienced team, with no rebuild required
- Shared leadership with a second team lead, so you're not doing it alone
- Ongoing leadership development and career support
