Civil Engineer (Roads) | Experienced to Senior | Sunshine Coast
- Backed early: drive counts for more than years on your CV
- Own road designs from concept to delivery, with real client contact
- Top-tier Transport team on the Sunshine Coast, with hybrid working
Ambitious? Good. That’s exactly who they’re looking for.
Some engineers wait for the next rung on the ladder. Others are already doing the job above them, running their own projects, talking to clients and writing the fee proposal, and wondering when anyone will notice.
If that sounds like you, this is worth a conversation.
About the Business
Our client is a long-standing, top-tier Australian civil and structural consultancy, now backed by a major global engineering and infrastructure group. Their Transport team delivers highways, intersections, pavements, drainage and bridge infrastructure for TMR and local councils across South East Queensland, often at joint-venture scale alongside the biggest names in the industry. Below that scale, the Sunshine Coast team is close-knit, so good work doesn’t go unnoticed. This is a business that backs engineers who show drive. If you put your hand up for more, you’ll get it: more ownership, more client contact and more responsibility, sooner than a big-firm career ladder would allow.
Why this one is different
- Your experience isn’t capped by your years. Show you’re ready and you’ll be given the work to prove it.
- You own the work. You’ll take civil components from concept through to delivery, not just a slice of someone else’s design.
- You face the client. You’ll be in regular contact with clients, project managers and drafters, building your own relationships and reputation.
- There’s a runway into project leadership, on some of the region’s most significant transport programs.
- You’re treated as an adult. You’ll have hybrid working and the autonomy to manage your own workload. Office time matters because it’s a cohesive team, but it isn’t expected every day.
The Role
- Concept and detailed design of geometric road alignments, intersections and civil infrastructure
- Building, reviewing and refining models and documentation in 12d and CAD
- Designing to Austroads and TMR standards, with real ownership of compliance
- Quantity take-offs, engineering reports and technical specifications
- Working with drafters, project managers and clients to keep delivery on track
- Some minor stormwater and drainage design where needed (a bonus, not a must)
About You
- Degree-qualified Civil Engineer with Australian road and highway design experience. The sweet spot is 5–8 years post-graduate, but if you’re 4 years in and clearly ahead of the curve, we want to hear from you.
- Solid experience working to TMR and Austroads standards. A background at TMR, in a council or in consulting all count.
- Confident in AutoCAD; 12d highly regarded, and exposure to TMR-specific design software will set you apart
- RPEQ and/or CPEng, or actively working towards them
- A self-starter who takes ownership, communicates well and enjoys the client side of the job
- Curious and eager to keep growing technically and professionally
What’s on Offer
- A competitive salary matched to experience
- Professional memberships and chartership support
- Mentoring and a career path shaped around you, not a template
- Annual career reviews (at minimum)
- Hybrid working, with a Sunshine Coast base
