About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead and take full accountability for our transport and warehousing operations across New South Wales and Queensland.

You will oversee daily dispatch, booking intake, fleet control, owner-driver and subcontractor relationships, customer service, and compliance across both states. Working closely with the senior executive team and national commercial managers, you will ensure key service levels (SLAs) are met while optimizing operational margins and identifying practical growth opportunities through existing accounts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day transport operations across NSW and QLD, overseeing booking intake, fleet control, dispatch, collections, deliveries, and timely proof-of-delivery (POD) closure.
  • Build and manage relationships with owner-drivers, off-hire carriers, and third-party transport partners while ensuring vehicle suitability, cost-effectiveness, and compliance.
  • Act as a senior operational contact for major accounts, conducting regular client reviews, ensuring SLA compliance, and resolving service exceptions promptly.
  • Coach and mentor fleet controllers, customer service reps, and admin teams across Sydney and remote QLD operations to build team stability and cross-training.
  • Monitor job profitability, carrier rates, cost-to-serve, routing, and extra charges (waiting times, accessorials) to maximize operational margins.
  • Maintain strict adherence to WHS, NHVR, Chain of Responsibility (CoR), fatigue management, and load restraint regulations across all fleet and partner operations.
  • Own the accuracy of the Freight Management System (FMS) data and produce operational performance reports against key business KPIs.

What We Are Looking For

  • Extensive background leading multi-customer transport, fleet dispatch, owner-driver, and subcontractor operations within transport, warehousing, or managed freight.
  • Thorough understanding of NHVR, Chain of Responsibility (CoR), WHS, and fatigue management standards.
  • Strong grasp of carrier pricing, fleet utilization, operational margins, and cost-to-serve dynamics.
  • Proficiency with modern Freight Management Systems (FMS), Microsoft Excel, and operational reporting.
  • Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, and negotiation skills with the ability to manage both on-site teams and remote operations.
  • A valid driver licence and flexibility for occasional travel across NSW and Queensland as operational needs dictate.
  • Relevant logistics/operations qualifications and fatigue management accreditation are advantageous.

At Randstad, we are passionate about providing equal employment opportunities and embracing diversity to the benefit of all. We actively encourage applications from any background.
