You’ll not only get to see your work make a difference, you’ll be part of a team working together to help Australians eat and live better every day.

Our Technology team is the backbone of the business, building and maintaining the information technology infrastructure that supports Coles Group. As a part of the Technology team, you get the opportunity to work through complex, challenging, meaningful problems using large data sets and new technologies to expand your skills and experience. Our Infrastructure Support team is responsible for the reliable operation and ongoing improvement of critical technology platforms across Coles Group.

You’ll join an experienced engineering team focused on building secure, resilient and supportable infrastructure while continually improving how we operate through automation, strong engineering practices and effective collaboration.

As a Senior Systems Engineer, you’ll play a senior hands-on technical role within our Infrastructure Support team, helping design, support and continuously improve our core infrastructure platforms. Working across on-premises and Azure-connected environments, the team supports core infrastructure services spanning Azure Local, Windows Server, Hyper-V, Azure Kubernetes Service, enterprise monitoring, automation, backup and recovery.

You will provide technical leadership across Azure Local, Azure-connected services, AKS, Windows Server, Hyper-V and HPE infrastructure, while acting as an escalation point for complex infrastructure issues. As part of this role, you’ll work closely with engineering teams, project teams, technology partners and vendors to ensure solutions are practical, reliable and aligned with business requirements.

You’ll also have strong troubleshooting, analytical and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical issues clearly and work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Experience mentoring engineers, working within ITIL incident, problem and change management practices, and managing multiple technical priorities will be highly regarded. Exposure to SQL, enterprise database platforms, Python or Agile delivery environments would also be beneficial. A core requirement for this role is experience with Azure and Shell scripting.

You’ll also:

  • Automate infrastructure administration and repeatable operational tasks using PowerShell, PowerShell remoting and Ansible Automation Platform
  • Manage platform lifecycle activities including upgrades, patching, firmware, capacity planning and end-of-life remediation
  • Monitor infrastructure performance, capacity and availability using Azure Monitor and SCOM
  • Maintain and test backup, recovery and disaster recovery arrangements, including Commvault
  • Support incident, problem and change management activities and use operational insights to reduce recurring issues
  • Maintain clear technical documentation, standards and support procedures
  • Mentor and support other engineers, sharing technical knowledge and strengthening capability across the team
  • Contribute to infrastructure standards, technical direction and platform roadmaps

Ideally, you’ll bring around 7 to 8 years’ experience in systems or infrastructure engineering, including experience operating in a senior technical capacity, along with a relevant degree or equivalent industry experience. You’ll bring strong experience across:

  • Microsoft infrastructure technologies including Windows Server, Hyper-V, Active Directory, Group Policy, SCCM/Microsoft Configuration Manager, SCOM and PowerShell
  • Azure Local, including cluster operations, lifecycle management, networking, storage, resiliency and Azure integration
  • Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) and containerised workloads
  • Infrastructure automation using PowerShell and Ansible Automation Platform
  • Azure Monitor, alerting, dashboards, log analysis and service health
  • Linux administration and troubleshooting within enterprise or hybrid environments
  • HPE enterprise server infrastructure
  • Commvault backup, recovery, restore and troubleshooting
  • Infrastructure security, vulnerability remediation, patching, certificate management and secure administration

You’re an experienced systems or infrastructure engineer who enjoys working hands-on with complex enterprise technology while also providing technical guidance and support to others.
